Martha Nolan Passes Away at 33: Mother Responds to Cancer Allegations
Martha Nolan-O’Slatarra’s mother, Elma, was reportedly questioned about unverified assertions that the late fashion designer had been secretly battling cancer prior to her untimely death at the age of 33.
Elma was allegedly approached by detectives looking into Nolan-O’Slatarra’s death on a yacht in New York, inquiring if her daughter had been fighting brain cancer, as reported by the Irish Independent. The outlet noted that Elma was “astounded” by such claims, insisting that Nolan-O’Slatarra was “perfectly healthy.”
On August 5, news emerged that Nolan-O’Slatarra had been discovered deceased while on a boat at the Montauk Yacht Club.
“We are heartbroken to hear about the tragic event that occurred,” a spokesperson for the Montauk Yacht Club stated at the time. “Our team is collaborating with law enforcement in their ongoing investigation and remains dedicated to the safety and well-being of our guests and staff. We have no further comments at this moment.”
Nolan-O’Slatarra’s family has since been seeking clarity about the circumstances surrounding her death.
“They are looking for more information,” attorney Arthur Aidala told the New York Post on Wednesday, August 13. “The situation surrounding this is far from standard. They wish to know anyone who was with Martha that night. Earlier that evening, at the time of the actual incident, we know of one person present. Was anyone else there?”
Aidala also held a press conference on Wednesday, asserting to reporters that “people are still being questioned” as part of the investigation.
“The family has met with the Suffolk County homicide detectives,” Aidala revealed. “They are conducting a thorough and extensive investigation.”
Nolan-O’Slatarra was the founder of the East x East clothing brand, which is characterized as a “sustainable resort wear brand” on its website.
“We are dedicated to employing eco-friendly materials and ethical manufacturing processes so that our customers can feel good about their purchases and their impact on the world,” reads an online description. “Our collections are designed to be enjoyed, whether you’re relaxing on the beach or exploring the city. We believe that fashion should be enjoyable, effortless, and sustainable. Join us in celebrating the sun while caring for our planet.”
Nolan-O’Slattarra often showcased East x East products through pop-up events at stores like Gurney’s.
“We are profoundly saddened by the tragic news regarding Martha Nolan and extend our heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones,” a representative for the boutique stated. “Although Martha was not an employee of Gurney’s, we were honored to host her East x East pop-up and admired her entrepreneurial spirit and creative vision.”
