Meet Anthony Boyle: Spotlight on the House of Guinness Star and His Notable Roles

Anthony Boyle transitioned from the West End stage to starring in various streaming productions.

“I just wanted to create. I wanted to write,” Boyle shared with the U.K.’s The Times in January 2024. “I got expelled from school at 16 and began searching online for ‘Belfast male acting auditions.’ I attended every audition I could find.”

After achieving success in theater, Boyle began to land screen roles, making an appearance in one episode of Game of Thrones in 2014 before securing additional supporting roles. In 2019, he portrayed Geoffrey Bache Smith in Tolkien.

Boyle also shared the screen with Taron Egerton in the 2023 Apple TV+ film Tetris. The following year, he took on the role of Major Harry Crosby in the streaming service’s Masters of the Air miniseries.

He continued his productive year with roles in limited series Manhunt, Shardlake, and Say Nothing. In September 2025, he debuted as Arthur Guinness in Netflix’s eagerly awaited House of Guinness.

Regarding his career, Boyle noted that much of his experience was gained on stage, telling The Times, “I learned to devote all my energy to the craft.”

1. He Is an Irish-Born Star

Boyle was born in Belfast, Ireland, where he attended De La Salle College and St. Louise’s Comprehensive College. After studying at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff, he earned a BA in acting.

2. He’s Part of the ‘Harry Potter’ Franchise

While he’s held numerous theater roles throughout his career, he is best known for his portrayal of Scorpius Malfoy in Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, a role he played from 2016 to 2019 in both London’s West End and Broadway productions.

3. He Has an Affinity for Historical Dramas

In addition to his role as Major Crosby in Masters of the Air, Boyle has been featured in several period dramas. He played Alvin Levin in 2020’s The Plot Against America and appeared as Brian Wood in 2020’s Danny Boy. He is also set to portray John Wilkes Booth in the upcoming series Manhunt.

“I’ve had the privilege, or maybe the responsibility, of portraying many real individuals,” he remarked to The Times. “I want to get it right. This really happened, and it matters.”

4. He Has Some A-List Costars

Boyle has shared the screen with Egerton in Tetris, and Masters of the Air features a host of stars including Austin Butler, Callum Turner, and Barry Keoghan.

5. He’s Somewhat of a Method Actor

Speaking about his role in Masters of the Air, Boyle mentioned to The Times that he immersed himself in the life of Major Crosby.

“I’d walk around my apartment mimicking his voice and mannerisms,” he shared. “This guy was heroic.”

In the same interview, he discussed his approach to embodying John Wilkes Booth for Manhunt. “It’s the most I’ve ever invested in a role,” Boyle confessed.
