Meet the Family of Tulane Head Coach Jon Sumrall: His Wife and Four Children
Jon Sumrall is currently balancing two significant roles: concluding his time as head football coach at Tulane University following their appearance in the College Football Playoff, while also adapting to his new position as head coach at the University of Florida.
Having taken on the role of the Gators’ head coach in November 2025, Sumrall opted to continue guiding his current team through the conclusion of their season, securing a prestigious place in the collegiate playoff landscape and a shot at the national championship.
In only his second year at Tulane, Sumrall successfully led the No. 17-ranked Green Wave to an American Conference Championship, boasting an impressive 11-2 record this season.
A native of Huntsville, Alabama, Sumrall played football at the University of Kentucky until a spinal condition diagnosed in his senior year forced him to retire from playing.
Before what might be the most important game of his career, Sumrall shared the news of his father’s passing in a statement posted on X on December 19.
“Dad was a fighter,” Sumrall expressed in the statement. “Having him there for the conference championship game just two weeks ago and then at the press conference in Gainesville days later are moments I will cherish forever. He was always there for me, and I know he will continue to watch over me!”
Continue reading to learn more about Sumrall’s family, including his wife, Ginny, and their four children: Sam, Sadie, Stella, and Selah.
Ginny
Ginny hails from Huntsville, like Jon, and they tied the knot there, though the precise year remains private. The two met during their high school years.
In October 2025, Ginny and Jon became ambassadors for the Son of a Saint organization, aimed at “transforming the lives of fatherless boys through mentorship, emotional support, life skill development, exposure to constructive experiences, and fostering positive peer relationships.”
“Jon and I immediately felt connected to the mission of Son of a Saint,” Ginny stated in October. “We are thrilled to contribute to the youth in our city.”
“Ginny and I are looking forward to collaborating with such an incredible organization,” Jon added. “We deeply respect their mission and the opportunities they provide to the young boys of New Orleans and are eager to be involved,” he indicated in a statement about their partnership.
After Jon’s announcement as the new head coach of the Florida Gators in December 2025, the couple generously donated $100,000 to Tulane’s support hall and Green Wave Talent Fund to assist new head coach Will Hall with recruiting and financial backing.
“Tulane University and New Orleans hold a special place in my family’s heart,” Jon highlighted in a statement. “Ginny and I are privileged to contribute to the Green Wave Talent Fund, as we believe in the vision of Tulane Athletics and desire to aid in the ongoing success of its student-athletes. The future is extremely bright, and we are excited for Will Hall and his family to be part of it.”
Sam and Sadie
Jon and Ginny’s eldest children are twins, who arrived on June 25, 2013, which coincidentally is also their wedding anniversary.
Jon shares an annual post celebrating his wedding anniversary and the twins’ birthday on social media to honor his family.
“June 25 is a significant day in our household!” he posted on X this past summer. “Happy Anniversary to my wife Ginny! Happy 12th Birthday to Sam & Sadie!”
Stella and Selah
Jon and Ginny’s youngest kids were born in 2016 and 2018, respectively.
