Meghan Markle Spotted Wiping Away Tears at Charity Event for Friend’s Late Son
Meghan Markle and her spouse, Prince Harry, made a heartfelt public appearance to show their support for friends.
“Proudly endorsing the George Zajfen Tennis Tournament,” Meghan, 44, shared via her Instagram Stories on Saturday, October 18, highlighting her friend Kelly Zajfen’s event in memory of her late son.
Zajfen, one of Meghan’s closest friends, is the mother of twins George and Lily. Tragically, George passed away in July 2022 at the young age of 9.
“Our other favorite, Lily,” Meghan captioned a snapshot of Harry, 41, embracing Zajfen’s daughter during the sporting event. (Meghan and Harry are also parents to Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4.)
Throughout the memorial tournament, Meghan and Harry attentively listened as Zajfen expressed gratitude to the attendees for their ongoing support. According to social media footage, the Duchess of Sussex was even seen wiping away tears.
Zajfen, who founded the Alliance of Moms organization, expressed her appreciation to Harry and Meghan in her own Instagram post. (The royal couple’s Archewell Foundation co-sponsored the tournament.)
“What a day. 💙🎾 The George Zajfen Tennis Tournament was absolutely extraordinary,” Zajfen posted via Instagram on Saturday. “Our amazing community came together with so much love, heart, and spirit for @allianceforchildrensrights in tribute to our beautiful boy. There were tears, hugs, and immense joy. Stay tuned for plenty of photos coming your way!”
She added, “I’m in awe of what we accomplished together. Truly amazed. We raised a record-setting $200,000 for our youth right here in Los Angeles and across California. Your generosity and support continue to transform lives and keep George’s light shining brightly. YOU made that happen.”
Zajfen concluded her message with a personal note directed at Harry and Meghan.
“Meg and H, your unwavering commitment to the community and your fierce loyalty and friendship continues to amaze me,” Zajfen stated, using the couple’s informal nicknames. “We are incredibly grateful that you chose to support The Alliance again this year. Your ability to show up for others, for this cause, and for our family is truly inspiring. Thank you for holding Georgie in your hearts and helping us carry his light forward.”
Meghan and Zajfen share a long-standing friendship, with the nonprofit founder even appearing in the first season of Meghan’s With Love docuseries.
“Feeling immensely grateful to have been part of With Love, Meghan and even more thankful to see my best friend shine so brightly,” she wrote on Instagram in March, commemorating the show’s Netflix debut. “Meghan, you embody pure magic and infuse love into all that you do — hosting, nurturing, creating joy. It all flows from you effortlessly and beautifully, not just on the show but every single day. This has been one of the most memorable and joyful experiences.”
Zajfen remarked, “The entire day was truly spectacular and SO much fun. The team, the production, the energy, the love — you really are the most incredible host. It was felt by everyone.”
Zajfen appeared alongside Meghan’s former Suits co-star Abigail Spencer for a cooking lesson led by the duchess.
