Meghan Markle’s Wedding Secret of Six Years Finally Revealed
The Duchess of Sussex became an internet sensation after choosing a minimalistic ‘no-makeup’ look for her wedding to Prince Harry in 2018.
In contrast to other royal brides who achieved picture-perfect complexions with extensive foundation and various beauty products, former Suits star Meghan enlisted makeup artist Daniel Martin for her refreshingly simple appearance.
In the following days, weeks, and months, royal enthusiasts sought to emulate her radiant, freckle-friendly look, often digging through online rumors—though not all were true. Six years later, he finally disclosed the well-kept secret behind the royal wedding appearance in a guest spot on Carlene Higgins and Jill Dunn’s “Breaking Beauty” podcast.
“I know you used RMS on Meghan on her wedding day. Oh wait, you didn’t? Let me take that back. That was just speculation!” the podcast host remarked, referencing the brand’s UnCoverup and Living Luminizer.
Previously, former makeup artist Lydia Sellers revealed to PEOPLE that Meghan adored “dewy-looking skin” and leaned towards using products like RMS eyeliners and blushers as well as Tatcha’s dewy skin mist.
“There was so much speculation about that,” the MUA stated when responding to the RMS rumors. When probed about how he truly created the look, he clarified: “Oh yeah, it’s been six years now. It was mostly Tatcha, and since I was with Dior at that time, we incorporated a lot of the new backstage products. So her entire face was primarily Dior backstage.
“This is the first time I’ve ever said this,” he disclosed with a chuckle.
The Tatcha moisturiser, priced at £67, is described as: “A rich, moisturising cream packed with plumping hydration and antioxidant-rich Japanese purple rice for a dewy, healthy glow.” This explains Meghan’s stunning radiance!
Regarding her lips, Daniel mentioned: “It was the [Dior] Lip Glow and a pencil, specifically a Mac lip liner because I’m a devoted Mac lip liner fan.” The Dior tinted lip balm costs £33 and contributed to her natural makeup aesthetic.
Royal Weddings
Daniel and Meghan formed a strong friendship after first meeting on the set of the legal drama Suits. Their bond made headlines after he assisted the royal bride in her wedding preparations, where he previously shared insights about the “relaxed” morning they spent together at the luxurious Cliveden House.
In an interview on Good Morning America, Daniel shared that they enjoyed a breakfast of cereal and fresh fruit, noting that Meghan showed no signs of pre-wedding anxiety. “We had breakfast together, and her dog Guy was with us, playing around. It was a really relaxed morning,” he noted.
They had no elaborate preparations for the big day, with Meghan opting for a virtual makeup trial. “She [texted me] asking, ‘Hey – what are you doing May 19th?’ and then sent me two emojis of a bride and groom. I thought, ‘Okay, I’m in—whatever you need,'” Daniel recalled, whose roster includes clients like Elisabeth Moss, Priyanka Chopra, and Jessica Biel.
He further explained in an interview with Glamour that Meghan is quite “laid-back” about her makeup choices.
“On your wedding day, you want to look back at your photos and feel great about your dress and not be preoccupied with whether your makeup was trendy in 2018. My focus was on enhancing her natural beauty,” he explained.
Their friendship has continued to blossom, with Daniel even making an appearance on Meghan’s Netflix show, With Love, Meghan.
