Meghan Trainor Declares Innocence in Ashley Tisdale Mom Group Controversy

Meghan Trainor is once again responding after getting caught up in the “toxic” mom group drama that has taken the internet by storm.

In a TikTok video posted on Monday, January 12, Trainor lip-synced to a clip from Stranger Things season 5, where young Holly Wheeler (Nell Fisher) attempts to convince her friends that their buddy, Mr. Whatsit, is really evil.

“Come on, you have to believe me. Please! You have to believe me. You have to,” the singer mimics Holly’s lines in the video.

On-screen, Trainor wrote, “Me still trying to convince everyone I’m not part of the mom group drama.”

The mom group drama involving Ashley Tisdale French, Hilary Duff, and Mandy Moore has become a hot topic online this week. “The root of the issues was that some of the women just became closer friends with each other, and Ashley started feeling left out,” a source tells Us Weekly. “There were […]

If her video wasn’t convincing enough, the “All About That Bass” artist captioned the post, “I swear I’m innocent,” along with a praying hands emoji.

Trainor, Mandy Moore, and Hilary Duff have found themselves under scrutiny regarding a “toxic” mom team after High School Musical star Ashley Tisdale French published an essay for The Cut on January 1. In her piece, Tisdale French, 40, shared that she left a mom group as it started to feel like “high school.”

“I remember being excluded from a couple of group gatherings, and I knew about them because Instagram made sure to show me every single photo and Story,” the actress recounted. “I started feeling distant from the group, noticing how they seemed to exclude me. … I kept telling myself it was all in my head, but I could feel a growing gap between me and the other members, who seemed indifferent to my absence.”

While Tisdale French did not name the women involved, she has previously shared playdates with fellow celebrities who have young kids. (Tisdale French and her husband, Christopher French, have daughters Jupiter, 4, and Emerson, 16 months.)

Ashley Tisdale French’s candid remarks about feeling iced out of a “toxic” mom team have captured the attention of many fellow celebrities. In January 2026, Ashley — who shares two daughters with her husband Christopher French — provoked discussions with her essay titled “Breaking Up With My Toxic Mom Group” as she opened up about her experience.

The former Disney star mentioned that she left the group after expressing that the atmosphere felt “too high school for me, and I don’t want to participate anymore.”

After social media users speculated about the subjects of her essay, Tisdale French’s representative assured TMZ that it was not about Duff, Moore, or Trainor.

Trainor herself addressed the ongoing drama in a TikTok video she posted on Thursday, January 8.

In it, the singer is seen sitting at a desk and typing on a computer while her song “Still Don’t Care” plays in the background.

Ashley Tisdale French stirred curiosity earlier this month when she shared her decision to exit her “toxic” mom friend group almost five years after bonding with the women over pregnancy and motherhood. “I found myself sitting alone one night after getting my daughter to bed, thinking, ‘Maybe I’m not cool enough?’” Ashley, who is mom to daughters Jupiter, 4, […]

Trainor’s caption in the video read, “Me discovering the supposed mom group drama.”

Daryl Sabara, Trainor’s husband, also shared his take on the situation with TMZ. The Spy Kids actor and singer are parents to sons Riley, 4, and Barry, 2.

“No drama here, just trying to keep the kids happy,” he mentioned on Thursday.

“I’m not really sure what’s happening,” he added, expressing concern by saying, “I hope she’s okay,” referring to Tisdale French.

Earlier in January, a source revealed to Us Weekly about Tisdale French’s mom group situation, stating, “The core issue was that some of the women became closer friends, leaving Ashley feeling excluded.”

They concluded, “There were instances when get-togethers were arranged last minute, often casual outings or quick dinners, where Ashley was left out. There was no ill intent—friendships evolve, and some bonds just grew stronger than others.”
