Millie Bobby Brown Condemns ‘Disturbing’ Remarks About Her Appearance
Millie Bobby Brown is responding to “disturbing” remarks regarding her looks.
The Stranger Things star posted a heartfelt video on Instagram on Monday, March 3, criticizing media content that “picks apart” her appearance.
“I want to take a moment to address something that I believe is larger than just myself, something that impacts every young woman under public scrutiny,” Brown, 21, wrote in the post, including a transcript of her video.
“It’s important to voice this issue. I entered this industry at the age of 10. I have grown up in front of everyone, yet people seem unable to grow alongside me. They expect me to remain unchanged, as if I should still look the same as I did during Season 1 of Stranger Things. And because I’ve changed, I’ve become a target,” she added.
The Electric State actress criticized several recent headlines that were “desperate to undermine young women,” including articles titled, “Why are Gen Zers like Millie Bobby Brown aging so poorly?” and “What has Millie Bobby Brown done to her face?”
She specifically referenced an article called “Little Britain’s Matt Lucas takes a harsh jab at Millie Bobby Brown’s new ‘mommy makeover’ look,” stating that it perpetuated “an insult rather than probing why an adult man is mocking a young woman’s appearance.”
“This isn’t journalism; it’s bullying. The fact that adult writers choose to dissect my face, my body, my decisions is disturbing,” Brown stated. “To see that some of these articles are authored by women is even more disheartening. We often discuss how to support young women, yet when it matters, it seems simpler to tear them down for clicks. Disillusioned individuals struggle with witnessing a girl transition into a woman on her own terms, not theirs.”
The Enola Holmes star further declared, “I refuse to apologize for aging. I will not shrink myself to appease unrealistic expectations from those who cannot accept my growth. I will not feel ashamed of my appearance, my style, or how I choose to represent myself. Our society has become one where it’s much easier to criticize than to compliment. Why is the instinct to express negativity over something kind? If this bothers you, I can’t help but wonder—what is it that truly unsettles you?”
“Let’s aim for improvement—not just for me but for every young girl who deserves to mature without the fear of being ripped apart for simply existing,” Brown concluded her message.
This isn’t Miller’s first instance of confronting critiques about her looks.
In January, she responded fiercely to online trolls suggesting she appeared older than her age through an Instagram story, declaring, “Women grow!!” and adding, “Not sorry about it :).”
Just last week, she subtly responded to social media claims about her age through another Instagram story, resharing a British Vogue article titled “No One Cares How Old You Think Millie Bobby Brown Looks,” and simply wrote, “Thank you.”
