Myrka Cantu’s Infant Son Sustains Skull Fracture from Bed Fall

Unexpected star Myrka Cantu is discussing a frightening incident that resulted in injuries to her infant son.

“I’ve always advised doing what’s best for you and your children, and I’ve supported cosleeping as long as it’s safe and works for you,” Cantu shared via Instagram on Saturday, November 15. She revealed that her 10-month-old son, Alejandro, had to be rushed to the hospital after falling off the bed while they were sharing a sleep space.

“I certainly should have considered that [my son is] crawling when cosleeping,” the former TLC reality star remarked. “I woke up in the middle of the night, not sure if he was playing or sleep-crawling, and he just fell off the bed.”

(Cosleeping typically means an infant sleeps near a parent, such as in the same room, while bedsharing refers to sleeping on the same surface.)

The journey of the cast from Teen Mom has been quite remarkable. The series debuted in December 2009 as the first spinoff of MTV’s 16 and Pregnant. The first season tracked the lives of Maci Bookout, Catelynn Lowell, Amber Portwood, and Farrah Abraham, who each faced distinct paths during their teenage pregnancies. On season 5, […]

Cantu — expecting her fourth child with husband Juan Castillo in 2026 — mentioned that she took her son to the emergency room before he was transferred to a children’s hospital.

“He fractured his skull and suffered a brain bleed,” Cantu shared in an Instagram video from the hospital. “I can’t pretend I’m okay because I’ve been crying a lot. I’m running on empty, having been up for a solid 48 hours.”

On a brighter note, the reality star conveyed that doctors were hopeful about Alejandro’s release in the coming days. She added that her son was doing ‘extremely well.’

“It’s not something that requires surgery,” she stated on Saturday. “We haven’t even been giving him pain meds. They’ve just been providing fluids and monitoring his vitals.”

Us Weekly has reached out to Cantu for further comment.

Fans first met Cantu on TLC’s reality show Unexpected in 2020. The unscripted series provides an unfiltered perspective on teenage pregnancies and the impact on young parents and their families.

Although she has been away from reality television for almost five years, Cantu explained her motivation for sharing her story — even with the inevitability of online criticism.

Where does the time go? Teen Mom first aired on MTV in 2009, and the children of Catelynn Lowell, Amber Portwood, Maci Bookout, and Farrah Abraham have all grown up. Since the original season, Lowell, Bookout, and Portwood have expanded their families. Lowell and her long-term partner Tyler Baltierra, whom she wed in 2015, have daughters […]

“I really thought about filming this, but it feels too real. Let the mom shaming come; I can take it,” she wrote via Instagram. “He’s the first baby I’ve ever coslept with and I assure you he’ll be the last. Even though I took precautions, nothing could have stopped him from falling off while we slept, except for him being in his own crib ALONE. My baby is incredibly resilient, and I find inspiration in him. I know this will be a learning experience we’ll be thankful for in the future. Right now though, it’s overwhelming and I need a break.”

Despite her worries about judgment, Cantu seemed to receive some support from her followers.

“Accidents really happen 😭❤️,” one fan commented. Another supporter added, “One thing about parenting is that babies are going to fall off beds. It’s happened to me and so many moms I know. No one really talks about the guilt that comes with that.”
