Naomi Watts Remembers Her Tears When Dropping Off Son Sasha at USC
Naomi Watts’ son, Sasha, is all grown up and heading to college!
The 56-year-old actress shared that the occasion was quite emotional for her, revealing via Instagram on Wednesday, August 20, that she shed a few tears while assisting Sasha in beginning this new chapter.
Watts, who is the mother of 18-year-old Sasha with her ex Liev Schreiber, posted a series of photos depicting the parents helping their son during his significant move. (Watts and Schreiber were in a relationship for 11 years before parting ways in 2016 and also have a daughter, Kai, 16.)
One image captured Sasha sitting on his dorm bed at the University of Southern California, while other photos depicted Watts and Schreiber, 57, supporting their son as he settled in.
“We packed and unpacked, organized, and color-coded. We walked endlessly, woke up early with excitement,” Watts described in her post. “Then we shopped and shopped, sometimes clashed over little things… We laughed, we cried, I had a few extra private cries and maybe some not-so-private ones. We hugged a lot. We built things, talked to robots, indulged in delicious food. We got lost frequently, met incredible people, had profound conversations mixed with a few fart jokes… 🤣 and gave advice on how life works.”
Watts concluded her post, “But then I remembered: he’s got this!! He did it!! He dreamed big and worked tirelessly for something incredible. Go @sashapeteschreiber — we love you immensely. #usc.”
Last month, Watts reflected on another significant life event for Sasha — turning 18.
The Mulholland Drive star honored her son in the caption of the July 25 post.
“Happy birthday sweet, darling @sashapeteschreiber,” she wrote. “18 today-and ready for the world! Can’t believe it.😊😭 It has been such a joy to watch you transform into the kindest, most wonderful young man. Thank you for making me a first-time mom.”
After her breakup with Schreiber, Watts married Billy Crudup in 2023. Both Watts and Schreiber prioritize their co-parenting relationship for their two children.
“We’re approaching things very differently. I’m really proud of us, cheesy as it may sound,” she shared with Net-a-Porter’s Porter magazine in 2019. “Our main focus has been to treat each other with kindness, and we are entirely committed to that.”
Schreiber has also moved forward and wed Taylor Neisen in July 2023. They have a daughter, Hazel Bee, who is 2 years old. Meanwhile, Crudup, 57, has a son named William Atticus Parker, 21, with his ex Mary-Louise Parker.
