New CBS Spinoff Focused on Kayce Dutton from ‘Yellowstone’ in Development

A new spinoff of “Yellowstone” is on the way — and it’s coming soon.

CBS announced on May 7 that it has greenlit a new series set in the world created by Taylor Sheridan, focusing on the journey of Kayce Dutton (Luke Grimes).

Tentatively titled “Y: Marshals,” this new series is slated to debut midseason and will air on Sundays on CBS. Luke Grimes will return to his role as Kayce.

This new series will follow Kayce as he joins the U.S. Marshals, “combining his skills as a cowboy and Navy SEAL to bring justice to Montana, where he and his teammates must navigate family, duty, and the psychological toll that comes with being the last line of defense in the region’s fight against violence,” as stated in CBS’s announcement of its 2025-2026 primetime lineup.

Sheridan, co-creator of the original “Yellowstone,” will act as executive producer along with David C. Glasser, John Linson, Art Linson, Spencer Hudnut, Luke Grimes, Ron Burkle, David Hutkin, and Bob Yari.

Hudnut will take on the role of showrunner for the series.

The new installment will find Kayce leaving “the Yellowstone Ranch behind him.”

The flagship series, which debuted in 2018, concluded with Kayce and his family selling the Yellowstone ranch back to the Broken Rock Reservation.

In a dramatic twist, Kayce’s sister Beth (Kelly Reilly) takes revenge on their brother Jamie (Wes Bentley) for his involvement in their father John Dutton’s (Kevin Costner) death. Beth and her husband, Rip (Cole Hauser), cover their tracks and purchase a new ranch in the Season 5 finale.

Like Kayce, the stories of Beth and Rip are expected to continue in their own spinoff, as reported by Deadline in December 2024.
