Nicole Kidman Urges Jamie Lee Curtis to Star in Scarpetta Sisters

Jamie Lee Curtis is sharing insights about her co-star Nicole Kidman’s contribution to her journey beyond just being a producer on the upcoming Prime Video series Scarpetta.

“Patricia Cornwell has been penning tales about a medical examiner named Dr. Kay Scarpetta for more than two decades, and I can’t even estimate how many millions of copies of these books have been sold. Nicole will portray Dr. Kay Scarpetta,” Curtis, 66, revealed exclusively to Us Weekly on Monday, May 12.

Curtis further explained to Us that her first encounter with Kidman, 57, was at the Oscars.

“She introduced herself to me, and we had a brief moment of connection,” she recalled. “After we parted ways, I thought, ‘Wow, that was incredible.’ Six months later, when she found out about the Scarpetta series in the works and that I was a producer, she expressed her desire to take on the role of Scarpetta. When I responded positively, she asked, ‘But you’ll be acting alongside me, right?’”

As per the Everything Everywhere All at Once star, that was the moment she realized she was taking on much more than just a producer’s role.

“In that moment, I thought, ‘Yes, Nicole Kidman. Yes. I’m going to be in a show with you.’ It was inevitable,” she stated. “I was going to be a producer, but then it was also clear that I would act in the show.”

Prime Video has already approved two seasons of the upcoming series, based on Patricia Cornwell’s Kay Scarpetta book series. Kidman will take on the role of the forensic pathologist and crime fighter, while Curtis will portray her sister, Dorothy. Kidman is also an executive producer for the project.

Curtis conveyed to Us that when it comes to determining when to associate her name with a project, it’s evident from her film and television history that she’s “not very choosy.”

“Usually, if a role comes my way, there’s a reason behind it. It’s not by chance,” she added. “You probably won’t see me as Lady Macbeth; that role won’t appear in my career.”

She elaborated, “I generally accept the projects that come to me … I cherish my life. I appreciate being myself, engaging in my work, and contributing to the art form that is entertainment. I love the combination of show business. I consider myself a marketing guru. I enjoy marketing and relish the journey of living a creative life. So, I’ve got no complaints.”
