Nobody Wants This Season 2: Key Details You Should Know
Fans were thrilled when Netflix confirmed the renewal of its beloved rom-com series Nobody Wants This for a second season, eager for more of Joanne and Noah’s romantic journey.
Since premiering in September 2024 with a 10-episode order, the show, which centers on the unexpected romance between sex podcaster Joanne (Kristen Bell) and the charming rabbi Noah (Adam Brody), has been met with widespread acclaim, maintaining a position in Netflix’s global top 10.
“Producing Nobody Wants This will always stand out as a monumental moment in my career,” show creator Erin Foster shared with Netflix in an article released on October 10, 2024. “The outstanding cast, crew, and everyone involved shaped it into what it is today, and seeing the audience’s response has exceeded all my expectations.”
The first season concluded with Noah potentially sacrificing his chance to be head rabbi at his synagogue to remain with Joanne, who expressed her reluctance to convert to Judaism.
“What should he do? What should she do? Where do we draw the line on sacrifice? How do we measure growth without losing ourselves for someone else? It’s indeed a sacrifice,” Brody elaborated to Netflix. “But ultimately, growth together should make both partners stronger — not at a cost to their own identities.”
The series promises to explore these themes and more. For now, continue reading for updates on season 2 of Nobody Wants This.
What Is the Status of ‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 2?
Nobody Wants This has officially been renewed. While it’s premature to speculate on exact release dates, filming for season 2 is expected to commence in February 2025, as confirmed by Brody.
During a November 1, 2024, guesting on Sirius XM’s Jeff Lewis Live, Foster stated that things are proceeding smoothly.
“Have any scripts been finalized? No,” she clarified. “However, we just assigned script duties yesterday, figuring out who will write what, and we have storylines prepared for all the episodes awaiting Netflix’s approval.”
Jackie Tohn, who portrays Esther Roklov, mentioned in a November 7 appearance on “The Viall Files” podcast that filming is projected to start in early 2025.
“The writers’ room has been active for quite some time now, perhaps over a month. So, February is the target,” she hinted.
By May 2025, Tohn celebrated the completion of season 2 filming with a series of behind-the-scenes photos. In one, she embraced Bell and Justine Lupe.
“That’s a wrap on Nobody Wants This Season 2! Can’t wait for everyone to see it!” she shared via Instagram. “I adore my co-stars and feel grateful to work (and play) alongside them. Here we goooo!”
Who Is Returning to the Cast?
Returning cast members include Bell, Brody, Lupe, Tohn, along with newcomers Leighton Meester and Miles Fowler.
Jenni Konner and Bruce Eric Kaplan, both from Girls, will join as co-showrunners, while Nora Silver (Single Drunk Female) will serve as an executive producer.
“I am incredibly thrilled to be part of Season 2 of Nobody Wants This, created by the talented Erin Foster,” Kaplan expressed to Netflix. “It is such a delightful and unique show, and I thoroughly enjoy working on it.”
What Do We Know About the Plot of ‘Nobody Wants This’ Season 2?
Season 2 is expected to pick up almost exactly where the first season left off.
“I believe we will resume right where we concluded,” Foster stated to The Hollywood Reporter during an interview in October 2024. “Not necessarily the same evening, but rather the same moment of, ‘What do we do now? How do we navigate this?’”
Foster remarked that Netflix advised her against rushing the story development in season 1 to avoid “artificial time jumps” that wouldn’t allow audiences to appreciate the evolution of a relationship.
Tohn hinted that fans can expect to see the continuation of this relationship, and it’s about to get intense.
“I don’t anticipate it being easy, but I do believe they will develop a relationship,” Tohn exclusively told Us Weekly. “Season 1 felt fantastical, so I expect we will delve more into real relationship dynamics. While they did touch on aspects like the ‘ick’ factor and Joanne’s crisis of faith, there will be more ‘relationship-y’ elements. But we’ll see how it unfolds.”
“I really believe the narratives will grow, and I trust our brilliant writers to lead us on this journey,” Tohn added. “We shall see, as we thrive on drama!”
Does ‘Nobody Wants This’ Have a Future Beyond Season 2?
With season 2 still in pre-production, Foster has already envisioned storylines for a third season. In fact, she confided to THR in October 2024 that she wishes to continue the series “as long as possible.”
“Interestingly, we have been brainstorming storylines in the writers’ room, and we frequently speculate, ‘That’s a season 3 plot!’” she stated. “We even joked about creating a board to propose season 3 ideas simultaneously because we have a wealth of material.”
What Do We Know About Leighton Meester’s Season 2 Character And Cast Dynamic?
In February 2025, it was revealed that Brody’s wife, Meester, would be joining the cast of season 2. She is set to portray Abby, who Variety reported is Joanne’s “middle school rival who has now become an Instagram mommy influencer.”
“We frequently collaborate. It’s in our contracts,” Brody quipped about the upcoming project with his wife while at the 2025 Screen Actors Guild Awards.
He explained to The Hollywood Reporter that Meester’s involvement came about quite naturally. “The producers are big fans of hers, and she loves the show,” Brody humorously added in February 2025, “Let’s seal this deal.”
Bell expressed her excitement regarding Meester’s addition during a conversation with Extra at the SAG Awards, which she also hosted. “We’re thrilled to have Meester join us in the second season of Nobody Wants This,” she stated, emphasizing that the cast dynamic heading into the next season is “delicious.”
Bell further explained, “This cast shares a close bond. Our group chat is quite active. Welcoming Leighton into our fold feels natural and wonderful.”
How Does the Cast Feel About the New Scripts?
“I’ve read a couple of them,” Brody shared with THR at the February 2025 SAG Awards, mentioning that the scripts have a positive tone that left him feeling “elated.” He added, “I couldn’t help but smile when I read them.”
