NY Giants Provide Update on Cam Skattebo’s Severe Injury and Future Outlook
UPDATE — 10/27/25, 9:35 a.m. ET: The New York Giants have provided an update on rookie running back Cam Skattebo, who sustained a severe injury while playing against the Philadelphia Eagles.
The team reported that Skattebo, age 23, underwent surgery on Sunday, October 26, in a local hospital near Philadelphia for a dislocated ankle. The injury occurred earlier that day during the Giants’ game at Lincoln Financial Field against the Eagles.
With the surgery, Skattebo is officially out for the rest of the season.
“If everything went well, and the surgery was successful, he should have no problems returning next year,” NFL insider Ian Rapoport stated on Monday, October 27. “Though it’s a serious injury, recovery is generally manageable.”
Skattebo, who was enjoying a breakout season, shared his thoughts on the injury Monday morning.
He reposted a video on Instagram, showcasing his teammates discussing how his injury impacted them, captioned: “My guys love tall boys ❤️.”

New York Giants rookie and breakout star Cam Skattebo was carted off the field after suffering a significant ankle injury during the second quarter against the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday, October 26.
The rookie was attempting to catch a pass on a 2nd down and 16 play when he was tackled, causing his ankle to become trapped between the field and Zack Baun, the Eagles linebacker involved in the tackle.
While sitting on the field, Skattebo’s teammates quickly called for medical assistance, as his right ankle was visibly out of place and turned awkwardly.
The medical cart arrived, placing Skattebo’s ankle in an aircast before transporting him off the field. Teammates were supportive as he was driven away, and he was quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game.
As he was carted off, Skattebo waved to the crowd at Lincoln Financial Field, which offered him a standing ovation as he was taken for immediate medical care.
According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Skattebo sustained a dislocated ankle and was admitted to a local hospital for further assessment and treatment.
The severity of his injury is still being evaluated.
“I feel absolutely horrible for the young man,” Giants head coach Brian Daboll said in a post-game press conference. “I saw the play. It looked severe. It’s tough to see any player on your team go down with such a serious injury, and I, along with the players, feel for Skat.”
Skattebo’s teammates expressed their support while he was receiving medical attention, although some struggled to look at the injury’s severity.

Rookie quarterback Jaxson Dart, who has developed a strong rapport with Skattebo over the weeks, was visibly shaken by the injury. Once the game stopped, Dart turned away, expressing his emotions through expletives and taking a knee in respect for his teammate.
“I was heartbroken,” Dart told the media after the game. “That’s my boy. Watching him go down like that is heartbreaking. It’s the most difficult part of this sport.”
As Skattebo was taken off, Dart ensured to give him one of their signature headbutt handshakes that they frequently perform in celebration.
“I know [Dart] has a close bond with Skat,” Daboll remarked. “Watching him go down like that, it affects everyone.”
He continued, “This is a contact sport, and injuries are an unfortunate reality.”
Skattebo and Dart have recently emerged as two of the most electrifying rookies in the league. Despite a challenging 2-6 start to the season, the duo has showcased their talents since taking over starting positions mid-season.
Skattebo has become a key player in a team seeking bright moments this season. Along with his seven touchdowns this year, Skattebo brings a contagious energy on and off the field that resonates throughout the team and across the league.
He scored a touchdown earlier in the game before his injury, catching an 18-yard pass from Dart.
So far in his rookie season, he has logged 398 rushing yards and 189 receiving yards.
The Eagles triumphed over the Giants, 38-20.
