Patrick Mahomes Causes a Stir by Adding Ketchup to His Turkey
Patrick Mahomes’ Turkey Day eating habits have sparked quite a debate online this Thanksgiving.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, 30, partnered with Adidas football on Wednesday, November 26, to remind everyone of the true spirit of the holiday.
“Thanksgiving is a time to give thanks,” he stated in an Instagram video. “Return home, gather with family, and meet new friends. Thanksgiving is definitely a time to eat.”
While the Super Bowl champion enjoyed classic dishes like mashed potatoes and veggies, he went ahead and slathered a turkey leg with ketchup.
“From Patrick Mahomes, Happy Thanksgiving,” the video concluded with a cheerful message.
Immediately after the post, fans eagerly expressed their opinions on Mahomes’ choice of condiment for turkey.
“Bro ketchup on the turkey? 😂 Come on now,” one follower commented. Another chimed in, “Aye, he needs to ease up on the ketchup 😂.”
However, one Kansas City Chiefs fan was more focused on Mahomes’ performance than his food choices for Thanksgiving.
“I’m not sure about the ketchup, Pat, but we really need to win!” the user commented. “Let’s go Chiefs!!! 😍.”
On Thursday, November 27, the Kansas City Chiefs will face off against the Dallas Cowboys at AT&T Stadium in Texas. The matchup will also showcase a halftime performance by Post Malone alongside the Dallas Cowboys Cheerleaders as part of the Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Kickoff.
“I’m honored to be part of the @dallascowboys @salvationarmyus red kettle kickoff halftime show,” Malone, 30, posted on Instagram on November 16 while sporting Dallas Cowboys gear. “Catch you all on Thanksgiving 🍻.”
This isn’t the first time Mahomes has drawn attention for his fondness for ketchup.
As reported by ESPN, the NFL star has a long history of putting ketchup on nearly everything. In fact, receiving bottles of it as birthday gifts was a common occurrence for him growing up.
The publication further noted that Mahomes hesitated to request ketchup with his steak during a restaurant outing in 2018. (It remains uncertain whether ketchup is served at Mahomes and Travis Kelce’s 1587 Prime steakhouse.)
“Just ask for it,” Patrick’s mom, Randi Mahomes, advised him at the time. “I know you want it.”
During a separate discussion with reporters, Mahomes shared his condiment preferences in a press conference.
“I don’t think it’s that strange, but I do put it on my macaroni and cheese,” he revealed to reporters. “Some people find that unusual, and others think it’s gross, but I enjoy it.”
Setting food preferences aside, both Patrick and his wife, Brittany Mahomes, are taking a moment to express gratitude for the life they’ve crafted together.
Before game day, Brittany, 30, shared a collection of autumn-themed photos featuring her husband and their three children—Sterling, 4, Bronze, 2, and 10-month-old daughter Golden Raye.
“Happy Thanksgiving🤎,” she wrote on Instagram on Thursday before her husband plays in his first NFL game at AT&T Stadium.
While it’s still uncertain if Brittany and the kids will be in attendance for Patrick’s Thanksgiving game, some family members showed their support for the Chiefs during the game on November 23.
“Sideline chaos🤣❤️,” Brittany posted on Instagram following the game.
