Pitt’s Patrick Ball Reveals How the Show Helped Him Eliminate $80K in Debt

The Pitt’s Patrick Ball is sharing how profoundly the show has transformed his life.

Ball, 36, became emotional in a recent interview with Cultured magazine as he reflected on how he managed to eliminate $80,000 in student loan debt, thanks to his role as Dr. Frank Langdon in the popular HBO Max medical drama.

“I paid off my student loans just three months into The Pitt, and that was an incredibly significant moment because I thought I would be burdened with it forever,” he shared during the Tuesday, April 7, interview. “It’s an immense weight to carry, one that many people deal with. I was $80,000 in debt and had endured a string of failed relationships where my financial struggles were a major issue. I believed that would be my reality indefinitely, which is a heavy situation to be in.”

He continued, “Clearing those student loans and starting fresh felt liberating. I thought, ‘If this show succeeds, fantastic. But if not, at least they can’t take that achievement away from me. I’m out of debt. No take-backs.’”

The Pitt is Ball’s first significant on-screen role and arrived at a challenging time when he was questioning his career direction.

“About six months before The Pitt came along, I was living in New Haven with my former partner. We’d been together for three years, and we were really struggling to envision a future together,” he narrated. “As an actor, uncertainty looms, and financial prospects can be grim. I was contemplating alternative career paths. Her father, a veteran, tried to persuade me to join the FBI. I even considered the Merchant Marines. Just a year earlier, I had spent four months in Alaska, contemplating working at a fishing camp and completely disconnecting from it all. When that relationship in New Haven ultimately unraveled, I found myself homeless.”

Before landing a role in The Pitt, Ball balanced a variety of jobs, including “working at a coffee shop, a restaurant, and as a wardrobe assistant for And Just Like That….”

Among his noteworthy experiences, Ball recounted acting in corporate coaching seminars.

“I’m not sure if I’ve shared this before, but I used to conduct these seminars where I’d be brought into firms like Blackrock, Blackstone, and Goldman Sachs to help teach young managers how to handle difficult conversations, such as firing someone,” he recounted. “They hired me as an actor so these managers could practice the art of termination. I’ve probably been fired more times than anyone you know, I guarantee it. I’ve been fired thousands of times.”

“Then the opportunity for The Pitt came along, and everything changed,” he concluded.

The Pitt is available for streaming on HBO Max.
