Rebecca Wisocky from Ghosts Discusses Hetty’s Power Revelation and the TV Show She’d Choose to Haunt

Rebecca Wisocky has embraced her Ghosts phase since the show debuted in 2021 — but which TV series would she choose to haunt if she were a ghost?

“I adored The Carol Burnett Show growing up,” Wisocky, 53, shared exclusively with Us Weekly. “I would definitely say The Carol Burnett Show, because it left a huge mark on me during a time when I was just starting to understand what made me laugh, especially watching [the late] Harvey Korman and Tim Conway break character.”

The actress explains that the “sheer, reckless silly joy” was so “palpable” while watching those Carol Burnett episodes, which led her to her choice. “I can’t imagine that it wouldn’t be an incredible place just to sort of hang out,” Wisocky adds.

She humorously notes that since The Carol Burnett Show was filmed on stage 33 at CBS Television City, her ghostly presence would keep her busy flitting from one soundstage to another. Wisocky mentions her spirit would need to check in on “The $100,000 Pyramid and Press Your Luck, plus a host of other quirky game shows that were there as well.”

Regarding Ghosts, now in its fourth season, Wisocky promises viewers plenty of laughter ahead. The actress tells Us that she’s particularly excited for fans to learn about her character Hetty Woodstone’s new power — something she hasn’t yet possessed.

“It was really thrilling to portray Hetty when it seemed like she might not ever have a power,” Wisocky revealed to Us, noting that Hetty’s ability is unveiled in the episode airing Thursday, March 13. “It connects to something significant we uncover about her, which is a big revelation this year: she is actually Irish.”

How Does Her Power Rank?

“Hetty is very invested in where her power stands in the hierarchy,” Wisocky jokes, adding, “It’s not something burdensome or unpleasant like Isaac.”

She explains, “It could turn out to be quite beneficial. It’s surprising and shocking and opens up a new dynamic for Hetty. It introduces a new kind of connection to the living realm. However, it does come with its limitations and drawbacks.”

The TV star reveals that when Hetty first gains her power in the “St. Hetty’s Day” episode, she initially believes it’s at the pinnacle of the power rankings. “But by the end of the day, not so much,” Wisocky quips.

What Is Hetty’s Reaction to Acquiring Her Power?

“She’s stunned and thrilled, feeling it opens up a whole new realm of possibilities for her,” she reveals. “It’s also quite humbling and sweet.”

How Many Blue Dresses Does Hetty Have?

Throughout the series, Hetty sports an iconic blue dress that represents her life in the late 1800s. However, Wisocky states that there isn’t just one blue dress on set.

“I have several different dresses,” she explains. “They’ve adjusted them over the years and had to create new ones due to the limited availability of that blue silk fabric.”

She adds, “I think there are now maybe six. Plus, I have various corsets depending on how constricted I want to feel on any given day.”

What Is Her Favorite Aspect of Hetty’s Development?

“One of my favorite elements that the writers have incorporated into her character is the wonderful contrast between being uptight, cantankerous, and yet incredibly childlike,” Wisocky expresses. “I adore those moments when she gets to be innocent and curious about discovering new things.”

She jokes, “Of course, she views everything through a rather peculiar lens from her own historical context, which makes it both humorous and charming. The way she misinterprets modern concepts is quite amusing.”

Wisocky lauds the character for facing “many of these new situations and concepts with both judgment and complete childlike enthusiasm, which is a blast for me as an actor.”

How Does the Cast Connect Off Screen?

After four years of working together, Wisocky shares with Us that the cast “has grown to really love each other” and that their “chemistry” has blossomed through their “closeness and teamwork.”

Filming in Montreal, Wisocky mentions that they often “go out to dinner” or attend “hockey games, and concerts” due to their time spent together while on location. She notes that when they shoot during Thanksgiving week, they celebrate the holiday as a group.

A hauntingly entertaining experience! While Ghosts isn’t your typical sitcom, the character transformations are part of the charm. The CBS series, which debuted in October 2021, follows married couple Sam (Rose McIver) and Jay (Utkarsh Ambudkar) as they inherit an old estate and aim to turn it into a bed-and-breakfast.

Their group activities also include pickleball, dinners, and board games. “Last year, everyone got really into pickleball, and it was a lot of fun. Most of us play pickleball up there and we also enjoy Scrabble,” Wisocky reveals. “Brandon [Scott Jones] and I are particularly fond of Scrabble.”

She adds, “Some of us even took French lessons together.” Wisocky laughs, saying, “It’s kind of like summer camp, but it extends through summer, fall, and winter.”
