When they find themselves in a Drivers Ed class together, he declares their relationship over, marking the “time of death” as “September 6, 2:45 p.m.” However, after Jackie helps him out with their parents, he reassures her that he will be alright, but just needs some time.

He later revises this, expressing his ongoing anger at Jackie for leaving after his drunken confession of love at Will’s wedding. He admits he’s frustrated because he can’t seem to move on from her, regardless of his efforts.

After Alex reveals he can’t forget Jackie, she admits that the true reason behind her departure was her kiss with Cole. When Alex confronts Cole, who attempts to apologize, Alex dismisses him, stating he doesn’t want to hear it. He declares it’s over between him and Jackie, as well as Cole and Jackie, suggesting it’s time for everyone to move on.

Days later, he tells Jackie that he’s relieved the kiss is out in the open because it confirms his feelings about her and Cole. He expresses understanding for why she left.

In a surprising twist, he tells Jackie he can never truly get over her, leading to a kiss between them.

Do Jackie and Cole Discuss Their Kiss?

Netflix

Unlike Alex and Jackie, Cole and Jackie don’t hesitate to address their kiss. Shortly after her return, Cole approaches Jackie in the barn to talk about their past spring encounter.

Cole admits he misses her, but Jackie urges him to stop, stating that their kiss initiated a “disaster.” When Cole inquires what Alex thought about it, Jackie admits she hasn’t told Alex and insists that nothing more can happen between them—not just for Alex’s sake, but for the sake of the Walter family and herself.

She asks for space, which Cole agrees to, leading to a dynamic where they support each other from a distance, sharing a few intimate moments—such as dancing together or Cole brushing hay from Jackie’s hair—but Jackie remains firm in her resolve. Jackie secretly rekindles her romance with Alex, while Cole attempts to date someone else but mistakenly calls her Jackie while drunk.

Their friendship deteriorates after Cole discovers Jackie and Alex making out on the couch, prompting him to avoid her until they have an intense argument in the season finale.

An unexpected accident involving George interrupts this pivotal moment, leaving viewers on the edge of their seats.
