Reese Witherspoon’s Thoughts on Turning 50: A Celebration of Milestones

Reese Witherspoon is experiencing the antithesis of a midlife crisis.

Following her 50th birthday on Sunday, March 22, a source revealed to Us Weekly that the Oscar winner was “more excited about it than anything else.”

“She is not the type to shy away from her age or the aging process,” the insider shared. “She prefers to celebrate her age.”

Witherspoon certainly has a lot to be grateful for these days.

“She enjoyed a financial boost after selling her company [Hello Sunshine, known for producing series like Big Little Lies and The Morning Show, for $900 million in 2021], and ever since, she has been extremely happy,” the source told Us. “Her career is thriving, her brand is successful, and her children are healthy. She is enjoying life to the fullest.”

Us Weekly has contacted Witherspoon’s representative for a statement.

Two days prior to her birthday, the Legally Blonde star took to social media to express her gratitude for reaching this milestone.

“I turn 50 on Sunday, and I can’t help but reflect on the years that have shaped who I am today,” she captioned a series of throwback images from the past three decades.

Witherspoon admitted she was “scared of everything” in her 20s. “I was working constantly, trying to navigate life, how to be a mom, and I was often clueless,” she reflected. “But I was learning, and discovering that I could handle more than I initially thought.”

In her 30s, the Walk the Line star learned to “trust” herself more while balancing her acting career and raising her three children: daughter Ava, now 26, and son Deacon, now 22, with her first husband, Ryan Phillippe, along with son Tennessee, now 13, whom she shares with her second ex-husband, Jim Toth.

“I began producing because I wanted to share important stories, especially those of women that were often overlooked,” she recalled. “Projects like Wild and Big Little Lies marked significant turning points. I realized I could create my own opportunities instead of waiting for them to come to me.”

Witherspoon revealed that by her 40s, she “fully” understood herself, stating, “I still work hard, but now it’s with intention.”

Looking ahead, the Emmy winner concluded her post with optimism: “There’s still so much left to accomplish, and I’m eager for all of it. More stories to tell, more women to uplift, and endless opportunities for learning and growth.”
