Renée Zellweger shared a humorous incident about accidentally tearing her dress at the 2005 Oscars and needing to break into her own house to switch outfits.

Diving into her memories of the red Carolina Herrera gown from the 77th Academy Awards, Zellweger made an appearance on British Vogue’s Life in Looks segment on Thursday, January 16.

“First of all, this is an incredible dress – I love this dress,” she remarked.

Featuring a strapless neckline and a mermaid-style train, the gown met an unfortunate fate when it was stepped on shortly after the ceremony.

To Bridget, who cannot cook! Released in April 2001, Bridget Jones’s Diary was a massive success, and the careers of its stars have continued to flourish. Renée Zellweger, portraying the bookish protagonist, had already dazzled audiences with notable performances in films such as Jerry Maguire and Nurse Betty, but Bridget Jones’s Diary was arguably pivotal in her rise to stardom.

“I remember as we were leaving that night, a gentleman stepped on the train, and I kept walking in the other direction, and it ripped right off my dress from right beneath my booty,” she elaborated.

After the incident, Zellweger intended to change before heading to an afterparty but soon discovered she had left her keys behind.

“I had to climb up the balcony to the second floor, and climb in through a little bathroom window in that dress, with a hole under my booty,” she said with a laugh.

This interview precedes the release of her upcoming film, Bridget Jones: Mad About The Boy, which is set to premiere on February 13 on Peacock.

This latest installment marks the fourth film in the series, following Bridget Jones (2011), Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason (2004), and Bridget Jones’ Baby (2016).

In a conversation with her costar Hugh Grant for British Vogue, Zellweger discussed her six-year hiatus from acting that lasted from 2010 until 2016.

“I was sick of the sound of my own voice,” she admitted.

“When I was working, I was like, ‘Oh, my gosh, listen to you. Are you sad again, Renée? Oh, is this your mad voice?’ It was a regurgitation of the same emotional experiences.”

However, her time off was far from idle. Zellweger, currently in a relationship with Ant Anstead since 2021, revealed that she busied herself by writing music, studying international law, and prioritizing her health, among other pursuits.

“I built a house, rescued a pair of older dogs, partnered to create a production company, advocated for and fundraised with a sick friend, and spent a lot of quality time with family and godchildren while traveling across the country with my dogs. I got healthy,” she shared.
