Revealing the Most Confusing Moments of And Just Like That Before the Finale

And Just Like That is officially concluding after its third season, but the series showcased numerous unforgettable plotlines that fans will remember fondly.

The Sex and the City spinoff received mixed reviews when it debuted on HBO Max in 2021. Featuring Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis as Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte, respectively, many viewers struggled with the absence of Kim Cattrall, who portrayed Samantha, the fourth member of the original friend group.

AJLT introduced fresh characters, including Che Diaz (Sara Ramirez), Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury), and Lisa Todd Wexley (Nicole Ari Parker), but the show never quite established a steady footing.

Just weeks before the season 3 finale, showrunner Michael Patrick King announced in August 2025 that the series would conclude.

And just like that … the Sex and the City universe draws to a close once more. This week, showrunner Michael Patrick King confirmed that the finale of And Just Like That, the SATC follow-up on HBO Max, will serve as the series finale. For those following Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte […].

“And just like that … the ongoing storytelling of the Sex And The City universe is coming to a close. While penning the final episode of And Just Like That season three, it became evident that this could be a perfect point to conclude,” read a statement shared on social media. “Together with Sarah Jessica Parker, Casey Bloys, and Sarah Aubrey, we opted to wrap up the popular series this year with a two-part finale, extending the original order from 10 episodes to 12.”

King added, “SJP and I delayed announcing this news until now because we wanted to keep the word ‘final’ from overshadowing the enjoyment of watching the season. We extend our heartfelt thanks to all viewers who welcomed these characters into their homes and hearts over the years.”

Parker responded in her own statement, reflecting on her journey as Carrie, who “changed homes, time zones, boyfriends, her mind, her shoes, her hair, but never her love and devotion to New York City.”

She expressed to fans, “I hope you cherish these final two episodes as much as we do.”

As the series finale approaches, Us revisits the most outrageous storylines from AJLT — from podcasts to unexpected pregnancies:

The Peloton of It All

AJLT kicked off with a bang in 2021 by killing off Mr. Big (Chris Noth) in a dramatic moment that placed Peloton in the spotlight. Big (or John, as Carrie referred to him) suffered a heart attack during the first episode after using his Peloton bike. Carrie discovered him on the floor and hesitated to call 911, igniting a Titanic-level debate on whether she could have saved him with a bit more effort.

The drama escalated off-screen when a Peloton spokesperson claimed that “HBO did not disclose the broader context” in which the bike would be portrayed in the show. Nevertheless, the conversation seemed to benefit the company, as Peloton released an ad featuring Noth that declared, “He’s alive.”

When Carrie Was a Podcaster

While her eventual novel did not fare much better, Carrie’s brief podcast career sparked confusion among fans. “I feel someone needs to sit Carrie Bradshaw down and explain what a podcast is,” one viewer commented online, questioning how live calls could happen on a pre-recorded podcast. Others were taken aback by Carrie’s discomfort discussing NSFW topics, despite her notoriety as a sex columnist. Miranda’s Entire Arc

Justice for Steve! Miranda fell for Che after attending their “comedy concert” — which was indeed a term used in the show — during a rough patch in her marriage. Not only did Miranda cheat on Steve with Che, they also hooked up right in front of Carrie. Although Miranda and Steve ultimately separated, her affair with Che barely survived into the show’s second season.

Alongside navigating her divorce and evolving identity, Miranda also quit drinking — though she almost broke sobriety in season 3 upon meeting another new love interest (after which she tossed his pricey bottle of gin into the trash).

Max’s effort to revive Sex and the City with And Just Like That has made waves in the press. The original Sex and the City, which premiered in 1998, followed Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) navigating her dating life in New York alongside friends Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Miranda Hobbes (Cynthia Nixon), and Samantha (Kim Cattrall). Couture in a Blizzard

One episode from season 2 still lingers in Us‘ minds years later. A snowstorm threatened to cancel many upscale NYC events — including Carrie’s keynote speech at WidowCon (yes, really) — but the women persevered in their high-fashion ensembles, trudging through a “bomb cyclone” to keep their social engagements alive. Charlotte even braved the storm to deliver condoms to her teenage daughter, who openly declared her intention to lose her virginity. LTW also ventured out in the storm to attend an event recognizing her filmmaking contributions, even carrying her wig through the snow.

Waiting for Aidan

As Carrie seemed to be moving on from Big’s death, she reached out to Aidan (John Corbett) with a nostalgic “Hey stranger” email in season 2. The pair decided to reconnect, but initially, Aidan was hesitant to enter Carrie’s apartment due to painful memories. A compromise was struck, with Carrie upgrading to a new townhouse to appease Aidan — who, in turn, requested she wait five years while he navigated raising his sons in Virginia. For some reason, Carrie agreed, yet their relationship ultimately fell apart.

The Viral Plot Error

During season 3’s summer airing in 2025, some viewers spotted a significant plot inconsistency when they realized LTW’s father was killed off twice. “Don’t forget he had already passed in season 1, and showed up for dinner in season 2, now he’s gone again… not everyone enjoys such a second chance,” joked one social media user, causing the mistake to go viral.

Entertainment Weekly later clarified that the season 1 death referred to LTW’s stepfather rather than her biological father, played by Billy Dee Williams in season 2.

Brady’s Baby

A shocking turn of events unfolded late in season 3 when Miranda and Steve’s son revealed he had gotten a girl named Mia pregnant. Steve became unusually aggressive during the tense confrontation — even threatening to “f***ing lay [him] out” — while Miranda wasted no time engaging in slut-shaming. She later confronted Mia at her workplace to question the baby’s paternity. Despite her progressive ideals, Miranda struggled with concerns about what would happen to the “little boy or girl” once Mia gave birth.

“Little boy or girl?” Mia responded. “You’re so binary.”
