RHOA’s Dwight Eubanks Opens Up About His Prostate Cancer Diagnosis at Age 64

The Real Housewives of Atlanta star Dwight Eubanks has been diagnosed with prostate cancer at the age of 64.

“I was taken aback. I felt anger. I was really an emotional mess,” Eubanks revealed in an interview with People, published on June 2. “Hearing the word cancer sends you into a panic. I’m human. Society has conditioned us to think of cancer as something tragic, like you only have days to live. Naturally, I panicked, and I believe I’m still in that state.”

Earlier this year, the renowned hairstylist — known for his criticism of Shereé Whitfield on Bravo during her “fashion show without fashion” — attended a health fair at his church where he underwent blood testing.

Following that, his doctor called to inform him of his prostate cancer diagnosis, confirmed by a follow-up PSA blood test in April.

“We are assessing potential treatment options, but we haven’t finalized a plan yet,” Eubanks stated regarding his care. “I have an excellent medical team, including two urologists, another specialist, and my family doctor. I feel at ease and am deeply thankful for the support I have, and together we will find a solution.”

The owner of Atlanta’s Purple Door Salon is collaborating with ZERO Prostate Cancer as their new brand ambassador to raise awareness about the importance of screenings.

As noted by the Mayo Clinic, those diagnosed with early-stage prostate cancer usually have several treatment options available and can often be cured.

Upon receiving his diagnosis, Eubanks realized he wanted to publicly share his journey, hoping to encourage other men to prioritize their health.

“It feels as if a higher power has been preparing me for this moment to offer hope to others,” he expressed. “I couldn’t remain silent about this because it could potentially help others who just need to get tested and not delay. Above all: ask questions, review your records, and investigate. I can’t speculate on what could have been, but I must accept where I am now and be thankful while helping someone else along the way.”

On Sunday, March 9, Real Housewives of Orange County star Tamra Judge suggested she was done with the show — and she’s not alone; other cast members have unexpectedly quit mid-season. “It was a long journey! When real life throws problems your way, this reality show drama doesn’t quite fit. Peace out … I’m done,” […]

For someone who openly comments on the “dreadful” events of life, Eubanks maintains a positive outlook for the future.

Currently, he feels “well” and is certain there is much more life to experience.

“Everyone will face challenges,” he remarked. “But when we reach those hurdles, it’s essential to pick yourself up, brush yourself off, and keep moving forward. Because life truly is a beautiful journey.”
