Rupert Everett Claims He Was Let Go from Emily in Paris
UPDATE 8/1/25 at 7:41 p.m. ET — Rupert Everett has clarified his comments regarding his status with Emily in Paris after suggesting he had been let go on Friday, August 1.
“In light of the recent articles about my involvement with Emily in Paris, I want to make it clear that I was never fired from the show,” he stated in a message to People. “I was conversing with a group of acting students — in my somewhat shaky Italian — at a festival in southern Italy, and things got a bit lost in translation!”
Us Weekly has reached out to Everett’s team for further comments.

Rupert Everett asserts that he was “fired” from Emily in Paris.
Everett, 66, made his debut as Italian fashion designer Giorgio Barbieri in season 4 of the popular Netflix series but claimed to Vanity Fair in an interview published on Tuesday, July 29, that he would not be returning.
“I was fired,” Everett alleged to the outlet, adding, “I did a scene in the latest season, and they told me, ‘Next year we’ll talk.’ I waited for their call — but ultimately, it never came, and they just let me go.”
He continued, “Show business is always very challenging, from start to finish. When they write the screenplay, they believe they want you — but then things change, and they lose your character. I don’t understand why. For me, it was a tragedy. I spent two weeks in bed because I couldn’t handle it.”

Meanwhile, a “source close to the production” informed Vanity Fair that Everett had been hired in a guest-star role and that his character’s storyline had reached its “conclusion.”
Everett, perhaps best recognized for his role as Julia Roberts’ companion in My Best Friend’s Wedding, is not the only actor to exit the series created by Darren Star that follows the adventures of lively American Emily Cooper (Lily Collins).
Along with Everett, Camille Razat will also not be featured in season 5. Since the show’s premiere in 2020, she has played a gallerist (also named Camille) who befriended Emily and dated chef Gabriel (Lucas Bravo), creating tension as Gabriel and Emily developed feelings for one another. Star, 64, seemed to confirm Razat’s exit in a TVLine interview around September 2024.
“Characters can come and go within a series, yet their appearances are not guaranteed,” he mentioned to the outlet at that time. “We may or may not see Camille next season. However, she remains part of the show’s universe. I’m uncertain about when we will see her again, but it doesn’t necessarily mean she won’t return.”
Other cast departures include: Kate Walsh as Madeline, Emily’s boss from Chicago; Charles Martins as Mathieu, an Emily love interest; and Thalia Besson as Geneviève, who formed a connection with Gabriel and worked in Emily’s office, creating tension.
The previous season ended with Emily relocating to Rome for her professional development and igniting a new romance with Marcello (Eugenio Franceschini).
“I think it just broadens the show’s universe,” Star told TVLine about Emily’s transition to the Eternal City. “Just as Emily becomes comfortable in Paris, she is thrust into another country where she’ll encounter cultural differences. Additionally, we explore the cultural contrasts between the French and Italians. It opens up a whole new world, yet we’re not saying goodbye to Paris.”
