Ryan Lochte’s Estranged Wife Kayla Shares Insights on Their ‘Complex Divorce’
Kayla Lochte, the estranged wife of Ryan Lochte, is sharing insights into their ongoing divorce.
“I’m currently navigating a complicated divorce, and I can tell you — it can often feel like being trapped in a moment,” Kayla, 34, expressed in a detailed Instagram post on Friday, October 24. This post serves as a reintroduction to friends and followers amid her separation from the Olympian. “I’m taking this time to rebuild, rediscover who I am, and pursue my dreams with clarity and courage.”
Having been estranged from Lochte, 41, since she filed for divorce in March 2025, Kayla started her post with a “new headshot,” emphasizing that she remains the same at heart.
“It’s been a while since I’ve properly introduced myself, so here are 10 things to (re)introduce me,” she shared. “I’m Kayla — a mom to three wonderful kids and two dogs. I’m a realtor who enjoys sharing real life on social media, though I wouldn’t label myself an influencer — just someone with a platform.”
Kayla further elaborated that her “passion” revolves around “helping people.”
“I’m naturally a connector and thrive on bringing people and ideas together to make things happen,” she noted. “My parents divorced when I was two, making me independent from an early age as a bi-coastal kid flying to visit my dad.”
Despite living apart — one in California and the other in Florida — her family remains “everything” to her.
“I strive to stay deeply connected,” she added.
Kayla initiated divorce proceedings against Ryan in March 2025 after seven years of marriage. They share three children: Caiden, born in 2017, Liv, born in 2019, and Georgia, born in 2023.
In September, Kayla submitted documents raising concerns about Ryan’s sobriety after allegedly discovering empty bags of cocaine at their home. She also accused the celebrated swimmer of using nitrous oxide in front of one of their children.
Ryan has refuted these allegations in statements to Us Weekly.
“After my car accident in 2023, I fell into a cycle of depression that led to substance use,” Ryan remarked to Us on September 2. “While I acknowledge that I used drugs in my home, I categorically deny ever using drugs around my children or driving them while impaired.”
Ryan added, “There were times when I would rest in my truck instead of going inside — not due to impairment, but because the home environment became overwhelming and toxic, and I needed a moment to gather my thoughts.”
Ryan expressed to Us that he aimed to keep the divorce proceedings private, not for himself, but to “shield my children from” what he deemed “fabricated allegations that could harm them.”
“Unfortunately, despite my efforts, my ex-wife opted to make this public, knowing I was undergoing intensive rehab,” he continued. “Everyone makes mistakes; we aren’t defined by them, but by how we learn and grow from them. I sincerely apologize to anyone I’ve hurt or disappointed. My focus now is on recovery, being the best father I can be, and moving forward to ensure my kids feel safe, supported, and loved.”
