Ryan Reynolds Jokes About Legal Dispute Over ‘It Ends With Us’ at SNL 50
Ryan Reynolds humorously commented on the ongoing It Ends With Us legal dispute involving him, his wife Blake Lively, and the film’s director, Justin Baldoni.
During a star-studded Q&A session featuring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler at the SNL 50th Anniversary Special held in New York City on Sunday, February 16, Reynolds, 48, made light of the highly publicized legal issues that have arisen since December 2024. (Lively, 37, filed a lawsuit against her It Ends With Us co-star and director, 41, on December 20, alleging sexual harassment and claiming he attempted to tarnish her reputation.)
When asked by Fey, 54, and Poehler, 53, how he was doing, Reynolds replied, “[I’m doing] great. Why, what have you heard?”
Lively, sitting next to Reynolds during the discussion, kept a neutral expression as the audience shared an (awkward) chuckle at the actor’s expense.
Fey and Poehler opted not to delve deeper into the subject, steering their focus back to audience inquiries regarding the history of Saturday Night Live.
The married couple, who tied the knot in 2012 and have four children together, walked the event’s red carpet, with the Deadpool & Wolverine star donning a classic suit while Lively showcased a metallic gown adorned with embroidered 3D flowers.
The duo is currently embroiled in a legal battle with Baldoni after Lively’s December lawsuit accused the filmmaker and his production company, Wayfarer Studios, of misconduct, further alleging Baldoni created a “hostile work environment” and attempted to damage her reputation.
Baldoni has consistently refuted the claims and filed a $400 million defamation lawsuit against Lively, Reynolds, and Lively’s publicist Leslie Sloane in January. He seeks damages for what he alleges is civil extortion, defamation, false light invasion of privacy, and other charges.
Lively’s legal team told Us Weekly at the time that Baldoni’s lawsuit was an effort to distort the narrative. “The tactic of attacking the woman is desperate; it doesn’t negate the evidence in Ms. Lively’s complaint and will ultimately fail,” her attorneys stated in January.
A trial is set to begin in 2026. Earlier this month, Lively and Baldoni’s respective legal teams declined to settle the matter through mediation.
Throughout this tumultuous period, Reynolds has remained supportive of his wife, recently posting a selfie of the pair during their visit to the UK on Instagram. On February 3, he shared the snapshot as part of his recent trip to Wrexham, where his professional football club, co-owned with fellow actor Rob McElhenney, is located.
The heartfelt post featured the song “Only Wanna Be With You” by Hootie & The Blowfish.
