Savannah Guthrie Reflects on Question to Khloe Kardashian Regarding O.J. Simpson

Savannah Guthrie recently reflected on an awkward interview she conducted with Khloé Kardashian, describing herself as a “naive, inexperienced anchor.”

In 2012, during her first year as co-anchor on Today, Guthrie interviewed Kardashian, who is now 40. She remembered her producers pressuring her to ask if OJ Simpson was Kardashian’s biological father.

“There were rumors circulating that her father, Robert Kardashian, wasn’t her real father,” Guthrie shared during her appearance on Andy Cohen’s SiriusXM show, Radio Andy on February 6.

“Honestly, I can’t recall the specifics,” Guthrie continued. “But I remember the producers back then—none of whom are here anymore—really wanted me to pose that question, and I was quite embarrassed to bring it up.”

Feeling uncertain, Guthrie decided to wait until the last moment to ask Khloé, just as the show was about to go to a commercial break.

“At the Today Show, we have something called a ‘hard out,’ which means you’re on a strict timeline,” she explained. “The show will go to black at a specific time.”

“So, I asked, ‘Khloé, just really quick, we’ve got a few seconds left—there have been claims that Robert Kardashian might not be your father. What’s the truth?’” Guthrie recounted. “And bless her heart—if I saw her today, I would absolutely hug her for this—she must have seen them counting down, like three, two… And she responded, ‘Yep, I know. Nothing to it.’ It was perfect timing, and I just said, ‘And we’ll be right back.’ She really saved me there.”

Both Khloé and Simpson, who passed away in 2024, have denied these rumors. When they resurfaced in 2017, Khloé took to X to set the record straight.

“People are a—holes, but I focus on the good,” Khloé wrote in response to the allegations.

In 2022, Simpson appeared on “Full Send” podcast, where he addressed the matter of Khloé and stated emphatically, “The rumor isn’t true. It’s not even close to being true.”

Simpson and Robert, who passed away in 2003, maintained a close friendship during Khloé’s upbringing. Robert was a part of the legal team defending Simpson during his notorious trial, in which he was acquitted of the murders of his ex-wife Nicole Brown Simpson and her friend Ronald Goldman. (Later, he was found liable for their deaths in a civil trial.)

In her 2011 memoir, “Kris Jenner…And All Things Kardashian,” Khloé’s mother, Kris Jenner, confessed to having an affair during her marriage to Robert but clarified that it was not with Simpson.

They divorced when Khloé was just 7 years old, in 1991.
