Scott Porter Addresses Paul Backlash Following Season 3 of Ginny & Georgia

Scott Porter is aware that Ginny & Georgia fans aren’t fond of Paul, which he finds a bit hypocritical.

“The truth is, this audience will always forgive Georgia. No matter what she does,” Porter, 46, shared during a Sunday, August 10, interview with YouTuber Joe Vulpis. “But if you do even one thing against Georgia, you’re basically erased from their minds.”

The actor stated that while Paul’s reaction to Georgia’s (Brianne Howey) deceit “was right,” his actions were “wrong.” He was notably referring to a moment in season 3, which debuted earlier this summer, where Paul, in a fit of anger, hit a wall above Georgia’s head, triggering her PTSD from past abusive relationships.

“When he struck the cabinet in frustration — you can see it in his eyes immediately — [there’s] a wave of regret because he understands the significance of that action for her,” Porter explained on Sunday. “He comprehends the impact it had on her, and it wasn’t intentional. It was a moment he wishes he could take back.”

Porter acknowledged the emotions behind Paul’s actions, saying, “Yet he loved her despite all the secrets she revealed to him. I think it’s easy for people to forget the many secrets Paul learned throughout their relationship and still chose to forgive, move forward, trust, and seek a partnership that Georgia was never fully willing to offer.”

Season 3 culminated with Paul hitting rock bottom, and Porter has been attempting to clarify Paul’s viewpoint since then. Georgia’s relationship with Paul deteriorated amid her murder trial, particularly after Paul discovered Georgia’s connections to her late ex-husbands — details she had previously kept from him.

The situation escalated when Georgia used daughter Ginny’s (Antonia Gentry) positive pregnancy test as leverage to manipulate Paul into staying with her. Although Georgia initially lied about the pregnancy, she later realized, during the season 3 finale, that she is indeed expecting a child, but it remains uncertain whether Paul or Joe (Raymond Ablack) is the father.

“Let’s face it, our show thrives on high drama. We rarely opt for the easy route,” Porter teased exclusively to Us Weekly in June. “If you’re looking for continued chaos, the notion of it being Paul’s baby is certainly intriguing.”

Porter also recognized why Joe could be a potential father, stating to Us, “The show has certainly indicated that there’s a storyline to be explored between Joe and Georgia. If you’re hoping for a happy ending — which I’m not sure we achieve in our show — then Joe should be the father.”

Though Paul and Georgia’s relationship ended by the season 3 finale, Porter does not dismiss the possibility of their paths crossing again in the future.

Fans of Ginny & Georgia have watched the cast evolve on and off screen since the series premiered on Netflix in 2021. Ginny & Georgia, featuring Brianne Howey, Antonia Gentry, Diesel La Torraca, Felix Mallard, Sara Waisglass, Raymond Ablack, and Scott Porter, tells the story of a young single mother who relocates her family to Wellsbury, […]

“[Her ex] Gil is going to prison for good now. [Georgia’s son], Austin, is still in the picture, and I believe Paul and Austin share a unique bond,” he continued. “I cherish that relationship, and I hope to see it develop further. Paul wishes to remain a part of Austin’s life — even if he’s not fully engaged with the family. Georgia continues to be a significant presence in Wellsbury, and their paths will definitely cross; she will remain involved in local affairs. Therefore, Paul will inevitably have to confront her.”

Porter concluded: “Perhaps we can return to a lighter dynamic filled with more banter and wit between them. I’d love to explore that in season 4. They are definitely not done with one another. I have no insight into whose baby it is, or what will unfold in season 4, but I believe the dynamic between Paul and Georgia will persist.”

Ginny & Georgia is currently available for streaming on Netflix.
