Selena Gomez and Benny Blanco are embracing Valentine’s Day with a fresh album and their first joint interview, released on Friday, February 14, where they discussed the details of their meeting, their romance, and their shared passion for stylish date-night outfits, among other topics.
During a laid-back conversation at Benny’s residence, the 32-year-old Gomez and 36-year-old Blanco chatted with Mel Ottenberg, the stylist and editor-in-chief of Interview magazine, quickly steering the discussion toward Gomez’s attention-grabbing engagement ring. After all, its stunning 8-carat size certainly stands out.
With Ottenberg’s opening question of “Thanks for having me, Benny. Selena, may I see your ring?” both Gomez and Blanco eagerly praised the dramatic piece of jewelry.
“She’s just — ” Gomez started, to which Blanco chimed in, “She’s spectacular.” In this context, the duo endearingly uses “she/her” pronouns to refer to the ring, often finishing each other’s thoughts, adding an extra layer of warmth to their exchange.
Gomez continued: “She’s a marquise. Ever since the ‘Good for You’ days — that was, gosh, so many years ago — that’s the gemstone I’ve always envisioned.” Having long envisioned her perfect engagement ring, Gomez showcased various designs to Blanco and would drop subtle hints regarding her preferences.
However, halfway through the design process, she changed her mind, which involved a close collaboration between her fiancé and jewelry design duo Katherine Theofilos Claster and Stephanie Theofilos from Abril Barret. As the duo had previously informed Page Six, Blanco had a clear vision without outside assistance from Gomez’s friends or anyone else, except for a few “Selena easter eggs,” as Ottenberg described it.
Initially, Blanco had incorporated “huge baguette” diamonds on the sides, but Gomez ultimately decided that she preferred a more understated design.
“I just think it’s too much,” she clarified. When asked about the proposal itself, she shared, “I want to reserve that story for our future children. It was beautiful, and the right things were expressed.”
The couple shared that they have not yet commenced planning their wedding because “they’re simply ‘too happy right now,’” as Gomez put it. Nonetheless, her jewelry is already arranged; Blanco mentioned that the “huge baguettes” that were part of the original design will be transformed into diamond earrings for her to adorn on their special day. “Basically, she’ll have three wedding rings,” he laughed jokingly.
Blanco revealed that he realized Gomez was The One after their second date, although he initially thought it wasn’t a date. “I had no clue,” he admitted.
Gomez added, “It’s possible to be friends with someone endlessly yet not realize it until you have that special evening.”
Blanco remarked: “I guess she assumed it was a date, while I was completely unaware. On our second outing, I started thinking, ‘Wait, does she like me?’ I was lost.”
He continued: “From that point forward, everything felt seamless. You know that feeling when you think you’ve met the right person? It’s unbelievable. The moment we began spending time together, I knew, ‘This is my future wife.’ I told my mom, ‘This is the one I’m going to marry.’”
Blanco now affectionately refers to Gomez as his “best friend,” and it’s clear they enjoy sharing each moment together. One commonality they share is their inclination to dress up for date nights.

“We enjoy dressing up for our outings,” Blanco shared. “We get all dressed up, enjoy fancy martinis, and love to embrace a theme. It’s like, ‘Tonight, I’ll wear a suit, and she’ll don a beautiful dress.’ Yet, we also enjoy wearing sweatpants for a cozy movie night.”
Even though they coordinate their date-night outfits, they do not pick each other’s attire.
“Never for our actual dates,” Gomez insisted. “Regardless of whether he dislikes my outfit, I’m going to wear what makes me happy.”
Blanco added, “We revel in a cozy date night.”
Their idea of a cozy date often involves home-cooked meals, leisurely walks, or, as Blanco put it, “just normal stuff.” On these relaxed occasions, Gomez mentioned: “Sometimes, I’ll ask him to choose something for me to wear, which often results in a blend of our styles.”

This might explain why the Instagram post announcing their engagement featured an image of them cuddled up on the floor of what seems to be their joint closet. Gomez sported her engagement ring while wearing a large sweater that could easily belong to him.
In those shared moments, they certainly appeared cozy and deeply in love, exemplified by her caption: “Forever starts now.”
