Selena Gomez and Mom Mandy Teefey: A Timeline of Their Journey Together
Long before Selena Gomez became a renowned figure, she was the daughter of Mandy Teefey (née Cornett) and Ricardo Gomez.
At just 16 years old, Teefey and Ricardo welcomed their daughter, named after the late singer Selena Quintanilla. Five years later, the couple parted ways.
“I blamed my mom a lot [for the divorce] because I wanted a family so much,” Selena reflected during a June 2011 E! Entertainment special about her life. “I wished for my mom and dad to be together. I remember feeling angry with my mom. I still regret that.”
She continued, “Having me at sixteen must have been a huge responsibility. My mom sacrificed everything for me, juggling three jobs. She supported me and gave up her life for mine.”
As Selena pursued her acting career, starting with the role of Gianna on Barney & Friends before rising to fame on the Disney Channel and beyond, her mom remained her greatest supporter.
