On Friday, January 16, she posted a makeup-free selfie via her Instagram Story, looking as stunning as ever, embodying the essence of her role in Only Murders in the Building.
The founder of Rare Beauty, aged 33, beamed in the photo, casually posing with her hand resting lightly on her forehead as she gazed at the camera.
Gomez has been candid about her journey towards self-confidence regarding beauty and body image, having faced frequent scrutiny as a public figure from a young age.
“Being in the spotlight from such a young age carries an immense amount of pressure. It’s challenging to feel at ease when it seems like everyone is watching and critiquing your appearance,” she shared with Glamour UK in December 2022. “Self-confidence remains a daily endeavor for me, but once I stopped adhering to society’s unrealistic beauty standards, my viewpoint transformed completely.”
According to the brand’s website, Gomez launched Rare Beauty in September 2020 with the mission of “challenging unrealistic ideals of perfection.”
The Disney alum discussed how she envisions her brand as a means to uplift others and encourage self-acceptance.
“I envision Rare Beauty as more than just a beauty brand; it has the potential to create a real impact. I want us all to cease comparisons and instead celebrate our individual uniqueness,” Gomez expressed.
In a different interview with Glamour UK in February 2022, the “Lose You to Love Me” singer elaborated on the ups and downs of her confidence regarding her appearance.
“It took a significant amount of time for me to recognize that I only desired to be myself – that my uniqueness is what makes me beautiful,” she shared during that interview.
In March 2025, Gomez addressed body shaming during her appearance on the “On Purpose with Jay Shetty” podcast, revealing the impact of negative remarks over the years.
“My weight is often a focal topic. People always have something to say, and while it’s not that I see myself as a victim, it has certainly made me a bit resentful, which I feel guilty admitting, but it’s true,” she remarked on the podcast.
Gomez also shared that her weight often fluctuates due to the medication she takes for lupus.
“I’d choose health and self-care over anything. The medications I take are essential and I believe they support my wellbeing,” she explained. “I’m not a model, nor do I aspire to be one. I think they’re incredible, but that’s simply not me.”
Gomez emphasized that while she tries to limit her exposure to social media critiques, it’s not always feasible.
“I’m human, and I occasionally stumble upon comments,” she admitted. “However, I generally tune it out. I don’t keep anything on my phone at that moment. So, I find ways to handle it.”
