Selena Gomez Jokes About a Comment on Her ‘Mustache’
Selena Gomez responded humorously to a remark regarding her “mustache.”
In a video posted on Instagram on Tuesday, December 16, the 33-year-old Gomez clarified why it might seem like she has a shadow above her lip while going without makeup.
“Someone made me laugh because they asked me, ‘How do you shave your mustache?’” she shared. She went on to explain that she doesn’t actually have a mustache; rather, the shadow is caused by “melasma.”
“I manage and treat it, but yes, it’s there,” added the star of Only Murders in the Building. Gomez mentioned that she wasn’t upset with the fan who asked. “I totally understand,” she remarked. “It’s from the sun.”
Melasma is a skin condition causing dark spots on the face, usually triggered by sun exposure.
Gomez has been open about her beauty treatments. In December 2023, she revealed that she underwent Botox while responding to an internet troll who suggested she “remove [her] cheek fillers/implants,” claiming it was “messing with [her brain].”
To which the singer replied, “Hahahaha I’ve had Botox, bb girl.”
In July 2024, she again dispelled rumors of other work after a social media user asked an injector for their opinion on what Gomez might have done.
“Honestly, I literally have no idea what she has gotten done,” the injector remarked. “I believe she’s faced so much in her life, particularly medically, so speculating about cosmetic work isn’t fair.”
Marissa, an injector based in New York City, added, “I can’t pinpoint any specific changes. I typically comment on these celebrity videos when I’m confident about what someone has undergone, but with Selena, I truly have no idea.”
The TikTok user continued, “Some people say Lupus, others have different opinions; I just think we should let her be. She’s beautiful regardless.”
After seeing the post, Gomez commented, “Honestly, I hate this. I was on steroids due to a flare-up. I have Botox. That’s it. Leave me alone.”
In 2013, Gomez was diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune disease that causes inflammation in various organs, including the skin and joints. Four years later, in 2017, she underwent a kidney transplant that was donated by her friend Francia Raisa.
After her recovery, Gomez shared a picture of herself and Raisa, 37, holding hands in the hospital.
“I’m very aware that some of my fans noticed I was a bit low-key this summer and questioned why I wasn’t promoting my new music, which I was very proud of,” she captioned the post. “I found out I needed a kidney transplant due to my Lupus and was recovering. It was essential for my overall health.”
Gomez expressed her gratitude to Raisa, stating, “There are no words to describe how grateful I am to my beautiful friend Francia Raisa. She gave me the ultimate gift and sacrifice by donating her kidney to me.”
