Selena Gomez has been in the spotlight for her notable relationships, including her on-and-off affair with Justin Bieber and her short-lived romance with The Weeknd.
“I’m the type of girl who loves deeply. I’ve always been that way,” Gomez shared with Miami’s Power 96.5 FM in May 2017. “I pour my heart and soul into the person I love. That’s simply how I function.”
Three years later, Gomez discussed the challenges of maintaining a “normal human relationship” while in the public eye. “To be honest, it’s quite cliché. Everyone seems to date everyone,” she said in an interview with Apple Music’s Beats 1 in January 2020. “It often feels confined to a small circle because it’s safer, right? You want someone who understands your experiences. It’s almost like looking for a creative partner too, and that’s intriguing and enjoyable.”
After navigating a rollercoaster of relationships with Bieber and others, Gomez took time to focus on herself, telling The Wall Street Journal in January 2020 that she had “been single for over two years.”
