Shedeur Sanders Cited for Speeding Twice Post-NFL Draft
Cleveland Browns quarterback Shedeur Sanders has been stopped for speeding violations twice since being drafted in the fifth round of the NFL Draft this past April.
Sanders, 23, was pulled over by the Strongsville (Ohio) Police at 12:24 a.m. on Tuesday, June 17, for driving at 101 mph in a 60 mph zone while in his Dodge TRX truck.
Additionally, he was stopped by the Ohio State Patrol in Brunswick Hills, Ohio on June 5, for traveling 91 mph in a 65 mph zone, as reported by WJW-TV.
During an appearance at Browns teammate David Njoku’s celebrity softball game on Thursday, June 19, Sanders, the son of NFL Hall of Famer Deion Sanders, discussed these incidents.
“I know I be vibin’, bro. I’m just a little boy,” Shedeur remarked with a laugh. “I’ve made some poor choices. I need to take responsibility for them. I acknowledge that I’ve made some not-so-great decisions. I’m learning from them.”
Cleveland Browns spokesperson Peter John-Baptiste informed Cleveland.com on Thursday that Shedeur is “handling the tickets.”
As of Friday morning, it was reported by the Akron Beacon Journal that both tickets have been paid.
Shedeur paid $269 in fines and court fees on Friday for the violation on June 5. He also incurred a $250 fine and court costs for the June 17 citation, which resulted in four points on his driver’s license.
Following an unexpected fall to the fifth round, Shedeur was chosen by the Browns as the 144th overall pick in the NFL Draft. Many anticipated he would be picked much earlier, with predictions placing him in the first round.
“We all didn’t expect this, of course,” Shedeur shared with his fans at a Draft party after not being selected in the first round. “But I believe that with God, all things are possible. Everything is possible. I feel like this situation occurred for a reason.”
He continued, “This serves as fuel to the fire and under no circumstances should this have happened. But we recognize we are heading towards greater things; tomorrow is the day. We will be joyful no matter what. Legendary.”
Currently, Shedeur is vying for the Browns’ starting quarterback position alongside veteran players Joe Flacco, Kenny Pickett, and 2025 third-round draft pick Dillon Gabriel.
Rookies are set to arrive at the Browns training camp on July 18 in Berea, Ohio.
