Sienna Miller: Why Having a Baby in Her 40s Is ‘Easier’
Sienna Miller is anticipating the arrival of her third child, expressing that being pregnant in her 40s is “the best.”
The 44-year-old actress discussed her pregnancy in an Glamour interview published on Monday, March 23, sharing that this experience has been “easier” compared to her 20s.
“Having had a baby at 29, followed by another at 42, and now at 44, it’s significantly easier when you’re not preoccupied with feeling scattered and wanting to achieve multiple things,” she elaborated. “Now, if I’m in bed by 9 p.m. with a good book, I’m completely content. I have the perfect excuse to enjoy it. My life feels more grounded now. My 30s were chaotic, filled with the desire to settle down and have kids.”
Miller is eagerly awaiting her third child, her second with boyfriend Oli Green. Their first, a daughter, was born in December 2023. Additionally, the actress has a 13-year-old daughter, Marlowe, with ex-partner Tom Sturridge.
The Anatomy of a Scandal star challenged the notion that she is too “old” to be having a baby.
“When you reach 40, you really start to understand yourself. You care less about others’ opinions. I’ve become a much more grounded person,” she stated. “We never criticize men who become fathers in their 80s. So why is there even a conversation about this?”
Miller mentioned that she had frozen her eggs, describing the experience as “enlightening,” even though she ultimately didn’t use them.
“I was fortunate enough to conceive without needing them, but it offered a profound sense of relief having made that decision in my late 30s,” she shared, advising fans to not stress about age. “In our 60s, we’ll look back and think, ‘Wow, I felt old at 40.’ This narrative is so misleading and plays into our insecurities, which we need to challenge.”
She also mentioned, “Growing older is a privilege. Being pregnant at this age feels like a biohack; you receive all those hormones and increased blood flow. It’s fantastic! I’m all for it.”
Miller and Green, who is 29, began their relationship in 2021. She previously addressed their 15-year age difference, admitting that while his youth was “annoying” at first, she ultimately “fell in love.”
“There’s a noticeable difference in how that generation of men respects women,” she shared with Harper’s Bazaar UK in June 2024. “He’s exceptionally wise and well-adjusted, but it’s also a generational trait. They have grown up in a more equitable environment, which I’ve observed in his female friends as well as the men.”
