Sister Wives Sneak Peek: David Woolley Dismisses Kody’s Apology as ‘Nonsense’
David Woolley kept quiet during the apology lunch between his wife Christine Brown and her former husband Kody Brown on Sister Wives, but as the season 20 reunion approaches, he’s ready to share his thoughts.
In an exclusive preview shared by Us Weekly for the January 18 episode of the Sister Wives: 1-on-1 special, David reveals that his “first reaction” upon hearing Kody, 56, express his love for Christine, 53, before their separation was simply, “Why in the hell am I here?”
“This is weird,” David, 61, recalls while talking to reunion host Sukanya Krishnan. “It sent me down a little bit.”
Reflecting on Kody’s apology to Christine—his second stop on his self-styled ex-wives apology tour—David expresses skepticism about Kody’s intentions. (Kody and Christine were spiritually married for over 25 years before ending their relationship in 2021 and share six children.)
“I call bulls*** on that. To me, it’s not just about him and her anymore. They’ve been separated for three to four years now,” David explains in the clip. “It’s a bro code you don’t break. You don’t tell your ex-wife in front of her current husband, ‘Hey, I did love you.’ That’s just wrong, plain and simple.”
David admits that he was “cool about it” at the time, but it now weighs heavily on him.
“The only reason I suggested, ‘Hey, do you want to come to Moab, [Utah]?’ was to gauge where he’s at,” David says, referencing his invitation for Kody to go offroading in Moab to foster a blended family dynamic.
In the preview, David claims that the meeting with Kody was really centered on Kody’s agenda and “not about ‘Hey, let’s work something out’ and patch things up.”
“He needed to voice his perspective. It was all about what he wanted, not what Christine wanted,” David asserts. “It’s not what’s best for the family; it’s about him.”
Throughout season 20 of Sister Wives, Kody visited each of his three ex-wives, starting with Janelle Brown in North Carolina, to apologize for his handling of their separations. He concluded this tour with first wife Meri Brown in Utah. (Janelle, 56, and Kody separated in 2022, while Kody and Meri, 54, announced their separation in 2023.)
His second meeting was with Christine in Las Vegas, where she was accompanied by her spouse, David, whom she married in October 2023. While they did engage in race car driving after their lunch, the conversation was notably awkward.
The most tense moment came when Kody admitted he “loved” Christine after previously stating he didn’t love any of his exes. At the time, David offered Kody some “advice” for moving forward, suggesting he concentrate on his children, not the women who have moved on.
Kody ignored this advice and according to part 2 of the Sister Wives: 1-on-1 special airing Sunday, he remains firm in his stance.
“It was beneficial because I think David genuinely means well and has valuable advice,” Kody reflects in Us’s initial look at the episode. “David thinks he’s got it all figured out.”
Kody contends that plural marriage “teaches you humility,” arguing that “David doesn’t yet realize he doesn’t know it all. But I do know that I don’t have everything figured out.”
Kody then informs Krishnan that he’s “not interested” in “heeding” David’s counsel, but wishes to be respectful towards his exes’ new husband.
“I think David’s a likable guy. To be honest, I find him appealing, but I don’t really know David. He doesn’t know me, but I think he believes he understands me,” Kody concludes.
Part 2 of the Sister Wives: 1-on-1 special airs on TLC Sunday, January 18, at 10 p.m. ET.
