Sophia Loren, 90, Shares Surprising Secret Behind Her Timeless Beauty
Sophia Loren is a legendary actress with a career that has spanned decades in Hollywood. She marked her 90th birthday in September and shows no signs of stepping back.
Her approach to both work and aging is refreshingly positive. When asked about the secret behind her youthful appearance in 2019, the iconic star had a memorable reply.
She told HELLO!: “There is no secret. This is the face I was born with. I prefer to maintain my natural self, without any secrets.”
Her statement recalled one of her famous quotes: “Beauty is how you feel inside, and it reflects in your eyes. It is not something physical.”
“Sometimes when I mention I’m 86, I find it hard to believe. I feel 20,” she added in her interview with AARP the Magazine’s December 2020/January 2021 issue.

“When I look in the mirror, I cheer for myself. I don’t ask, ‘Are you great?’ or ‘Are you beautiful?’ No! It depends on how I feel inside, my level of security, and happiness. That’s what counts.”
Sophia swears by olive oil, which she not only consumes daily but also occasionally uses on her face as a moisturizer. She also uses mint leaves for under-eye bags and drinks plenty of water to stay hydrated.

Remarkably, this 90-year-old enjoys pasta and treats without restrictions. Sophia’s illustrious career includes films like The Life Ahead, The Millionairess, Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, Nine, and Marriage Italian Style, as well as It Started in Naples.
Recently, she’s collaborated with her son, Edoardo, on projects like The Life Ahead, Between Strangers, and Voce Umana (Human Voice). Her eldest son, Carlo Jr., has also pursued a creative career, becoming a prominent conductor in the United States.

When reflecting on her career highlights, she stated: “It’s wonderful to receive recognition for my films. I also take pride in my family, as people often say I have beautiful children. Like any mother, I’m extremely proud.”
Yet, her commitment to her work remains steadfast. “I don’t want to focus on my legacy. My focus is on my next project. I’ll think about legacy when I retire, which I hope never to do,” she told Deadline in 2024.

She mentioned to the publication that the secret to her achievements is not having a fallback plan. “When faced with seemingly insurmountable challenges, having no plan B helps.”
“Take a deep breath, forge ahead, and find the right solution. You have no choice but to move forward. No plan Bs—just plan A.”
