Sophie Trudeau Discusses Love as Justin and Katy Perry’s Relationship Blossoms
Sophie Grégoire Trudeau delivered a heartfelt message regarding love and progress as her ex-husband Justin Trudeau embarks on a new relationship with Katy Perry.
“Nothing we cherish is intended to last forever,” Grégoire Trudeau, 50, wrote in an Instagram video on Monday, October 13. “People, places, moments — they’re all meant to be experienced, not owned.”
The former Canadian TV host continued: “The beauty lies in the experience: in shared laughter, a fleeting look, the essence of a place before it transforms. Connection isn’t something we possess — it’s something we feel while it lasts. That’s the true magic: being present.”
Grégoire Trudeau encouraged her followers, “Allow yourself to love what is here, without the urge to hold on. #MindfulLiving #Presence #sophiegregoiretrudeau.”
In the video, Grégoire Trudeau admitted, “Holding on may feel safer than letting go. But love was never about ownership. It was always about being present. The now. When we let go of what we can’t keep, we create space for the reality of connection, intimacy, memories, and lessons.”
She reflected, “Grief also exists within that space. I lost my father in the past year, and I feel that with grief comes also grace.”
Grégoire Trudeau wrapped up her message by expressing, “Perhaps love’s greatest lesson is to remain open-hearted in the face of impermanence. To honor what has occurred and to trust that letting go is a way to keep it alive inside us, where no loss can erase it.”
Grégoire Trudeau’s reflections come after her divorce from former Canadian Prime Minister, 53, in August 2023, following 18 years of marriage. The former couple shares three children: Xavier, 17, Ella-Grace, 16, and Hadrien, 11.
Since their separation, Trudeau has reportedly been linked to Perry, 40. The relationship speculation began in July when they were seen on a dinner date in Montreal, Canada. Trudeau was spotted days later at Perry’s Lifetimes Tour in the same city.
Us Weekly later confirmed that their July meeting was “definitely” a date, though described as “casual.” An insider mentioned to Us that Perry and Trudeau “had been in contact for the past month and share several mutual acquaintances in the music scene.”
Last month, another source told Us that the “Roar” singer was still discreetly involved with Trudeau. “They’ve chosen to keep a lower profile about it,” the insider shared on September 15. “They are still communicating and are quite interested in each other.”
Earlier this month, Perry and Trudeau confirmed their relationship remains strong after they were seen kissing and embracing on a yacht in Santa Barbara, California.
Us Weekly previously reached out to representatives for both Perry and Trudeau for comments.
Before her relationship with Trudeau, Perry was engaged to Orlando Bloom for six years. The couple, who share a daughter named Daisy, 5, ended their engagement in June.
Perry was also married to Russell Brand for 14 months before their split in late 2011. Bloom, for his part, has a son named Flynn, 14, with ex-wife Miranda Kerr, from whom he divorced in 2013.
