Stephen A. Smith Supports Trump’s Remarks on Bad Bunny
Stephen A. Smith has weighed in on Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX halftime performance.
Smith, who is 58, stated that he found Bad Bunny’s show to be “fly,” while also connecting with President Donald Trump’s critique of the 13-minute show, which was primarily in Spanish.
“[Trump] raises a valid point when he mentions the ‘mess of a halftime show, which will get rave reviews from the biased media.’ Some will praise the halftime show just to oppose Trump and the right-wing,” the ESPN commentator expressed during the February 10 episode of “The Stephen A. Smith Show.”
Smith continued, “That’s not me; I’m impartial and balanced.” Overall, he deemed it a “damn good show.”
As Us Weekly previously reported, Trump, 79, took to Truth Social on Sunday, February 8, to condemn the performance as “absolutely terrible,” labeling it “one of the worst, EVER!”
Trump asserted that “nobody understands a word this guy is saying,” adding that the dance moves were “disgusting, especially for young children watching from all over the United States and the world.”
During his performance at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, Bad Bunny, 31, delivered a medley of his greatest hits, including “Tití Me Preguntó,” “Safaera,” “Monaco,” and “El Apagón.” The star-studded event featured appearances from Cardi B, Karol G, Jessica Alba, and Pedro Pascal, who notably joined him live on stage for “Yo Perreo Sola.” Additionally, guest performers included Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin.
Before the event, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt commented that President Trump would skip Bad Bunny’s show in favor of Turning Point USA’s “All-American” halftime presentation.
While Smith found Bad Bunny’s halftime show engaging, he did express one significant concern regarding the performance.
“Here’s my only hesitation: you’re in the United States and you perform almost the entire show in Spanish,” Smith pointed out. “If you didn’t understand Spanish, you were lost.”
He added, “And if the majority don’t grasp the lyrics because you’re communicating in what they view as a foreign language, that’s a valid critique from the president.”
Smith acknowledged that although Bad Bunny had his critics, he also had a substantial amount of support.
“Now, tens of millions also loved it. They enjoyed themselves,” Smith remarked. “Often, keeping it real, we don’t need to know the lyrics. All we need is the beat.”
While Bad Bunny’s halftime show sparked controversy, it also made history, becoming the most-watched of all-time with 135.4 million views.
According to NYC Water, a remarkable statistic was shared via X, noting a “significant reduction in water usage” for 15 minutes during the show. Following the performance, a staggering 761,719 toilets were flushed across the city, demonstrating that viewers held off on bathroom breaks until Bad Bunny’s set concluded.
