Stephen Colletti Addresses Rumors of Love Triangle with Kristin Cavallari

Laguna Beach stars Stephen Colletti and Matt Leinart are finally addressing a long-standing high school rumor.

“I’m glad you joined [the podcast] because I thought there might have been some tension between us from 20 years ago,” Leinart, 42, stated on the Thursday, February 26, episode of the “Throwbacks With Matt Leinart and Jerry Ferrara” podcast. “I really didn’t know what was happening, man.”

Colletti, 40, replied, “Usually, I get questions about my time on the show. I’m curious how your time on Laguna Beach was because you had such a memorable cameo.”

In season 2 of Laguna Beach, Colletti’s former girlfriend Kristin Cavallari dated Leinart while he was making a name for himself at the University of Southern California.

Even though Leinart never made an appearance on the show, he mentioned how his name was frequently referenced on the iconic MTV series.

“I was like, ‘What the heck happened? What’s going on?’” he recalled during the podcast. “I remember my teammates giving me a hard time about it.”

Leinart mentioned that he has kept a friendship with Cavallari, 39, and even reached out to her before inviting Colletti onto the podcast.

“I apologize if I ever did something wrong,” Leinart said to his guest. “Man to man, right here, face to face.”

Spoiler alert: There’s no animosity between these former residents of Orange County.

“No worries, you didn’t do anything wrong. It was just two ships passing in the night,” Colletti laughed. “Luckily, there was no overlap. There wasn’t a secret love triangle with you and me and her during that time. We were both moving on.”

Colletti—who is now married to NASCAR reporter Alex Weaver—went on to share that Cavallari once described her date with Leinart as a delightful experience, calling him a “gentleman.”

After viewing a clip from the podcast on Instagram, Cavallari chimed in to affirm that there are no hard feelings.

“So glad we cleared this up 🤣,” she wrote in the comments section on Monday, March 2.

More than 20 years after Laguna Beach first aired on MTV, much of its cast will reunite for a reunion special on The Roku Channel.

For the first time since 2006, Colletti and Cavallari will get together with Lauren Conrad, Lo Bosworth, Talan Torriero, Trey Phillips, Christina Shuller, Dieter Schmitz, Jessica Smith, and Alex Hooser to reminisce about the series that followed the lives of students from Laguna Beach High School.

The show became a monumental success for MTV and spawned various spinoffs, including The Hills and Newport Harbor.

“We never really discussed it,” Colletti joked about the upcoming special. “We never anticipated we’d gain this much attention. Two decades later, we’ve grown up and feel ready to revisit that past together. It was great to have everyone back together. We had a blast!”

The Reunion: Laguna Beach debuts on The Roku Channel on April 10.
