Summer I Turned Pretty Recap: Conrad Confesses His Love for Belly Before the Wedding

The Summer I Turned Pretty has officially hit a critical juncture as Conrad attempts to halt Belly’s wedding to his brother.

In the episode from Wednesday, August 20, of the popular Prime Video series, Belly (Lola Tung) begins to question her decision to marry Jeremiah (Gavin Casalegno) after experiencing intense moments with Conrad (Chris Briney), her ex and soon-to-be brother-in-law.

The gathering becomes complicated during a bachelor and bachelorette weekend at Cousins, which promises to be one for the ages. Jeremiah starts sensing an awkward tension between Belly and Conrad, who are doing their best to avoid one another. However, after Belly indulges in a few shots and a gummy, she begins to realize just how much Conrad has been there for her, even when she wasn’t aware of it.

Belly wonders why Conrad went out of his way to convince her mother, Laurel (Jackie Chung), to accept her wedding to Jeremiah. Their discussion is cut short, but Belly can’t help but feel anxious about the fact that she’s days away from saying “I do” while still having thoughts of Conrad.

Conrad, meanwhile, stands by Jeremiah until he discovers that his brother cheated on Belly during spring break. Fans of Jenny Han’s book series tuned in eagerly, anticipating the scene they had been looking forward to since the TV adaptation was first announced.

Belly and Conrad come face to face at the beach, only to end up clashing. Conrad is shocked to learn that Belly was aware of Jeremiah’s betrayal and still intends to marry him. Belly, in turn, is taken aback by how much Conrad cares, leading her to realize what the audience has known all along: he still has feelings for her.

“Don’t marry him,” Conrad implores Belly in a moment straight from Han’s We’ll Always Have Summer novel. “Don’t be with him. Be with me.”

However, things aren’t straightforward, as Belly turns down Conrad, leaving both of them heartbroken just days before her wedding to Jeremiah.

While the resolution of the love triangle remains uncertain, Wednesday’s episode once again featured Taylor Swift songs as pivotal musical moments in key scenes with Conrad and Belly. Tracks like The Tortured Poets Department’s “Robin” and “Loml” accompanied fans as they witnessed the developments of what appears to be the endgame couple.

Earlier this season, Han featured Swift’s “You’re Losing Me” following Belly’s discovery of Jeremiah’s infidelity. “False God” was later brought back during a near-kiss moment between Belly and Conrad after it initially appeared in season 1.

Han previously noted that season 3 has not included as much of Swift’s music as fans might have hoped. “I think I’ll say, I guess … keep watching,” she shared with Variety in August.
