Survivor’s Sabiyah Broderick and Katurah Topps Officially Confirm Their Romance

Survivor contestants Sabiyah Broderick and Katurah Topps have shared the exciting news that they are officially a couple.

The two former contestants debuted their relationship through a collection of photos on Instagram on Sunday, June 22.

“While playing Survivor, we faced challenges with fire,” the caption of Katurah’s post read. “I struggled to ignite it, and she went an entire week without it. But the bond we’ve created? That’s a flame that has ignited on its own!”

She continued, “From players to partners, from castmates to co-dreamers… Introducing Survivor’s FIRST Black Queer Woman Couple.”

The post featured images of the couple sharing kisses, hugs, and moments of intimacy. Many Survivor alumni expressed their joy in the comments.

“I’M SCREAMING, happy pride month to us all!!!!!! Yaaaaaaassssssssss this is the best,” exclaimed season 46 winner Kenzie Petty.

“I’m obsessed beyond words,” wrote season 47’s Teeny Chirichillo.

“OH MY GOD THIS IS EVERYTHING,” season 43’s Cassidy Clark reacted.

Sabiyah and Katurah both participated in season 45 of Survivor, which aired from September to December 2023, but they were part of different tribes. Sabiyah was the second contestant voted out, while Katurah made it to the final four before being eliminated after a fire-making challenge against Jake O’Kane.

The couple also expressed their affection during an episode of “The Pride Has Spoken” podcast on Sunday.

“We never had a single day playing together in the game, which is so crazy and mind-blowing,” Katurah remarked.

Despite not being shown interacting on the series, their connection was meant to be. Sabiyah shared that when she was eliminated early, she left behind her black shirt and shoes. Katurah later wore the shirt for the rest of the season and used the shoes during water challenges.

Katurah admitted she was surprised by Sabiyah’s early exit, which led her to a revelation later at the Lulu camp.

“At that moment, I felt completely alone. I had no one. I was cold during the nights, shivering, and I found her shirt, which I put on, realizing, ‘This kept me warm,’” she recalled.

Survivor Showmances Who Stayed Together After the Show

While Survivor isn’t primarily a dating show, many contestants have discovered unexpected, lasting love on the series. The first notable on-screen romance occurred during the All-Stars season in 2004, when Rob “Boston Rob” Mariano and Amber Brkich formed an alliance that quickly bloomed into something more.

“When you find yourself on an island with nothing, starving and devoid of allies, anything serves as a reminder. … her shirt became a symbol of hope for me to persevere,” Katurah shared on the podcast episode.

The couple also outlined their relationship timeline in a follow-up interview with Out Magazine, disclosing that Sabiyah proposed the relationship on January 20. Katurah elaborated on their decision to reveal their relationship publicly.

“We recently celebrated our six-month anniversary on June 20, and with it being Pride Month, we felt it was the right time,” she explained. “After ensuring our foundation was strong, we’re finally ready to showcase our love to the world.”
