Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell Discuss Their Relationship and Future Sequel Plans
Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell continue to discuss their successful film, Anyone But You.
“We aimed for everything to be an adventure,” Sweeney, 27, remarked about her connection with Powell while promoting the 2023 rom-com in an interview with The Wall Street Journal published on Wednesday, August 20. “The audience and viewers created most of the other stories.”
Though Sweeney and Powell, 36, were involved with other partners at the time, their undeniable chemistry sparked romance rumors. Both have insisted they are simply friends. (Sweeney was engaged to now-former fiancé Jonathan Davino, while Powell was dating now-ex Gigi Paris.)
Anyone But You enjoyed significant box office success, and Sweeney hinted a sequel might be on the horizon.
“I can’t unveil all my secrets,” the actress hinted to E! News in February 2024, adding that she was “talking to [Powell] this morning … We’re discussing possibilities.”
More than a year later, Powell revealed in a Wednesday interview with The Hollywood Reporter that he and Sweeney are “still in talks” about a possible sequel. He noted they agreed not to pursue a follow-up “until we have the right concept,” which “necessitates patience.”
Since the premiere of Anyone But You, Sweeney and Powell have remained close. Following Sweeney’s breakup with Davino earlier this year, she joined Powell at his sister Leslie’s wedding.
“There is nothing romantic happening between Glen and Sydney. They are just friends,” a source exclusively informed Us Weekly in March 2025. “Sydney has a good relationship with the entire family.”
The insider further shared that the Euphoria star has “maintained a long friendship” with Leslie and “brought one of her friends as a plus one to the wedding.”
A few months later, Paris appeared to subtly criticize Powell and Sweeney — without mentioning names — regarding their perceived role in fueling romance speculation.
“I just wanted respect, especially in public,” Paris expressed on a June episode of the “Too Much” podcast. “Like, don’t make an ass out of me. Just don’t make a fool of someone you’ve been with for over three years, discussing a future together. Have some decency, you know? At the end of the day, it felt like work was prioritized. If that’s the case, good for you, but I have to step away. What was frustrating was how everything was handled. I felt like I was just thrown to the wolves.”
