Sydney Sweeney Reflects on Her Transformation in ‘The Housemaid’
Sydney Sweeney is sharing insights about her stunning transformation for The Housemaid.
During a conversation with Entertainment Tonight on their TikTok account on Wednesday, December 9, Sweeney, 28, opened up about her character Millie’s makeover in the anticipated film. “This is my character look,” Sweeney mentioned, showcasing a hint of makeup, reflective of Millie’s style.
“Millie has an understated appearance,” the publication pointed out, to which Sweeney concurred.
“This was a key point for me when discussing with the costume team,” Sweeney remarked. “I wanted each outfit to remain consistent rather than having a dramatic change every day.”
Sweeney elaborated, “She has her go-to pair of jeans, one jacket, and she thrift shops for her wardrobe. She isn’t splurging on brand-new items and outfits.”
She added that Millie wouldn’t own a myriad of shoes. “You’ll notice Millie’s outfits are mixed-and-matched, which I appreciate. The jeans look worn in, and this jacket [I’m wearing now] even has some holes. This represents Millie.”
The Housemaid tells the story of Millie, who faces financial struggles and accepts a live-in maid position with the Winchester family, including Nina (Amanda Seyfried), Andrew (Brandon Sklenar), and their daughter Cecelia (Indiana Elle).
In another part of the interview, Sydney expressed her commitment as a “strong advocate for numerous story elements” in the film.
“As someone who loves reading, I reviewed several drafts, insisting, ‘Wait, where’s this? Where’s that? We can’t alter this,’” she shared. “I prioritize the expectations of book fans.”
In the trailer, Sweeney starts off with her blonde locks in messy waves. Her character sports eyeglasses, sweaters, and jeans, showcasing a fresh-faced look.
As the narrative unfolds, Millie undergoes a transformation, descending a staircase magnificently glammed up. Her blonde hair cascades in lively curls.
The makeup shift is also notable, featuring dewy foundation, filled brows, rosy cheeks, and glossy lips. She accentuates her appearance with eyeshadow, black eyeliner, and extended lashes.
She further enhances her look with a white glittery top adorned with a strapless plunging neckline and pearl buttons.
This isn’t Sweeney’s first role transformation; for her recent portrayal of Christy Martin in the biopic Christy, she gained 30 pounds.
“I loved it,” she revealed to W Magazine in June. “I joined the project to portray Christy, undergoing about three and a half months of training. I transitioned my diet, weight-trained in the mornings for an hour, kickboxed during midday for two hours, and weight-trained again in the evenings for an hour.”
She mentioned needing new clothes throughout her training. “None of my clothes fit anymore. I usually wear a size 23 in jeans, and now I was in a size 27. My body changed significantly; my breasts became fuller, and my butt grew noticeably. It was surreal!”
The Housemaid is set to debut in theaters on December 19.
