Sydney Sweeney Welcomes New Dog Following Engagement Split
Sydney Sweeney is proudly showcasing her new furry companion.
“Meet Sully Bear ❤️,” Sweeney, 27, announced on Instagram on Monday, April 21. “In the two weeks since he joined my life, he’s turned into my best friend on set, my bowling buddy, my napping partner, a fellow water lover, and my travel mate.”
Along with her announcement, Sweeney shared various photos and videos featuring her dog, including one capture of the pup sprinting towards her in a grassy space. Another sweet moment shows Sweeney bending down to give her dog a kiss while he gazes up at her.
This introduction to her pet came just a month after Us Weekly confirmed exclusively that she and Jonathan Davino had officially ended their engagement. A source revealed to Us that the Anyone But You star was “telling friends she is single.”
A different insider had indicated earlier that month that the couple’s wedding plans had been “put on hold.”
“They were planning to marry this spring, but that is no longer happening, and they aren’t discussing it further,” the second source noted. “Sydney felt overwhelmed with everything and wanted to call it all off.”
Prior to their breakup, Sweeney and Davino co-produced the 2023 romantic comedy Anyone But You. Sweeney starred in the film alongside Glen Powell, with whom she faced rumors of an affair. However, both Sweeney and Powell, 36, denied these claims. (At that time, Powell was in a relationship with model Gigi Paris.)
“I’m not sure I have the mental strength to manage this, but she’s incredibly intelligent,” Powell shared with Business Insider in December 2023. “And yes, Sydney and I have genuine chemistry. … It was much easier for her to lean into that because she’s in a very happy and committed relationship.”
Sweeney and Powell reconnected in March at his sister’s wedding in Texas. However, a third source informed Us that they are “just friends.” Powell playfully responded when asked about Sweeney’s attendance at the event.
“The wedding created quite a buzz. Were you surprised?” Jenna Bush Hager inquired of Powell during an episode of Today With Jenna & Friends earlier this month. Laughing, he responded, “You know, timing is everything in this world, isn’t it?”
While Powell chose not to comment on Sweeney’s split from Davino, he added, “She and Syd are obviously great friends, and it was an incredible wedding. The Powells truly know how to celebrate, so everyone who cares about her was there.”
