Taylor Swift Subpoenaed in Lawsuit Involving Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni
Taylor Swift has received a subpoena concerning Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s ongoing legal dispute, prompting a representative for the singer to criticize the lawyers for involving her.
“Taylor Swift never set foot on the set of this movie, was not involved in any casting or creative decisions, did not score the film, never viewed an edit, nor provided any notes on the film,” the rep stated in a communication to Us Weekly on Friday, May 9. “She did not even see It Ends With Us until weeks after its public release and was touring worldwide in 2023 and 2024, headlining the largest tour in history.”
The spokesperson remarked, “The only connection Taylor had to this movie was the licensing of one song, ‘My Tears Ricochet.’ Since her involvement was limited to allowing one song for the film, similar to what 19 other artists did, this subpoena appears to be an attempt to utilize Taylor Swift’s name for creating tabloid clickbait rather than concentrating on the substantive facts of the case.”
Days before the official subpoena was issued, Lively’s attorney Mike Gottlieb chastised Baldoni’s legal team for their intention to subpoena Swift, 35, and potentially Hugh Jackman. “This case revolves around Blake Lively’s allegations of sexual harassment on set,” he stated in an interview with People published on Thursday, May 8. “It’s not about the selection of songs for the film or fictional Marvel characters in Deadpool movies.”
“One must ask why these individuals are being subpoenaed,” he continued. “Do they really hold any relevance to the case at hand? You cannot simply subpoena people because they’re famous, hoping it will garner headlines. The federal courts do not condone such actions.”
Baldoni’s lawyer, Bryan Freedman, reacted to Gottlieb’s remarks, saying, “Although this may be uncomfortable for the Lively parties, the truth is not a distraction. The truth has been clearly demonstrated through unedited receipts, documents, and real-life footage. More will follow. Blake was the one who involved her prominent friends in this situation, disregarding their personal or public repercussions. As evidenced, she used her Dragons to manipulate Justin at every turn.”
A source disclosed in the March issue of Us Weekly that Swift “wasn’t pleased with being dragged into the legal situation.” While another insider indicated that Swift wishes to stay out of the case, a different source mentioned in January that the Grammy winner and Lively remain friends.
“There’s no truth to the notion that this has damaged their relationship,” the second insider shared. “They are still good friends.”
Lively and Baldoni’s legal conflict became public in December 2024 when Lively initiated a sexual harassment lawsuit against her former co-star and director. In the legal documents, Lively asserted that Baldoni and his team cited Swift as an example of the “weaponization of feminism” in their alleged scheme to tarnish her reputation.
In a message included in Baldoni’s $400 million countersuit against Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and Lively’s publicist Leslie Sloane, Baldoni claimed that Swift and Reynolds provided feedback on a rooftop scene featuring his and Lively’s characters. “Was working on rooftop scene today, I really love what you did. It really does help [sic] a lot. Makes it so much more fun and interesting. (And I would have felt that way without Ryan and Taylor),” his text stated in legal documents obtained by Us in January.
Both Lively and Baldoni, along with their respective teams, have forcefully denied each other’s allegations, including Lively’s claims of sexual harassment against Baldoni and the director’s assertions that Lively attempted to assume creative control of It Ends With Us, among various other disputes on both sides.
The pretrial discovery phase is currently ongoing, with a trial date scheduled for March 9, 2026.
