Teddi Mellencamp Makes Light of Shaved Head During Cancer Journey

Teddi Mellencamp is embracing her shaved head during her battle with cancer.

Mellencamp, age 43, took to Instagram on Monday, April 14, to showcase her glamorous look ahead of filming with personal trainer Vanessa Smith. “Wig free filming day,” she captioned her post, humorously adding, “Lots of makeup for the head since one side is a hairless cat.”

In the video, she offered fans a glimpse of her hair, which was fuller on one side than the other. The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills alum had her glam touch-ups featured in the clip, sporting a dewy foundation, rosy blush, highlighted cheeks, and glossy lips.

For her eye makeup, she opted for a smoky effect with brown shadow blended into her crease and a shimmering bronze shade applied to her lids. She finished her look with perfectly filled eyebrows and mascara.

Teddi Mellencamp candidly discussed her experiences wearing a wig during her cancer diagnosis. On Thursday, March 13, she opened up on Instagram, sharing a side-by-side photo of her brunette buzzcut alongside her platinum blonde wig — effortlessly rocking both styles. Earlier this month, Mellencamp, who was diagnosed with melanoma in 2022, opened up about the challenges of losing her hair.

“What a difference 4 months makes,” she shared alongside a side-by-side photo of her hair transformation. “Sometimes I focus so much on ‘being strong’ that I forget it’s okay to be sad, to cry, and to feel very alone. I cherish my kids, friends, and family so much and am eternally grateful for them, but man, today is one of those tough days.”

Since her melanoma diagnosis, Mellencamp has kept her followers informed about her health journey. Earlier this year, she revealed that the cancer had metastasized to her brain and lungs.

In February, she shaved her head prior to undergoing brain surgery. “I’m adding this look to my bucket list,” Mellencamp remarked as a friend buzzed off her hair. “My best look. Sorry to break it to my brother, but once I’m allowed to wash my hair and it’s not all spiky, I think I might give you a run for your money, Hud. I’ll see you tomorrow, and we’ll see who wore it best.”

Most recently, she told Nightline that her doctors are unable to provide a clear estimate on her survival odds while she goes through immunotherapy.

“One of my favorite questions is, ‘How long do I have? What are my chances?’” she said. “They often reply with 50/50. 50/50? I wouldn’t buy a car that only runs 50 percent of the time. I’m not interested in that.”

She explained, “And [the doctor] reassured me, ‘No, that’s just because that’s how long immunotherapy has been available, so that’s how long the studies have been conducted.’ That’s when I try to seek out the positive.”
