Tell Me Lies Series Finale Recap: Who Broke Up? Who Was Unfaithful?
The series conclusion of Tell Me Lies packed in unexpected plot twists, significant revelations, and updates on the status of each tumultuous relationship—did it wrap up satisfactorily?
Hulu’s hit show culminated on Tuesday, February 17, with Bree (Cat Missal) and Evan’s (Branden Cook) wedding witnessing one last chaotic breakdown. Before that, the series took Us back to the moment Cat discovered Evan cheated on her with Lucy (Grace Van Patten).
With advice from her friend Alex (Costa D’Angelo) about being cautious of her surroundings, Cat decided to strategically stay with Evan, fully aware that he was more invested in their relationship than she was. She temporarily ended her secret affair with Wrigley (Spencer House) and played a pivotal role in releasing the tape where Lucy confessed to lying about her sexual assault being publicized.
This led to Lucy’s expulsion from Baird College, marking the close of the past timeline. Additionally, Stephen’s (Jackson White) time at Baird came to an end; however, his acceptance to Yale was retracted. Surprisingly, Wrigley turned out to be the hero, confronting Stephen after he leaked Diana’s (Alicia Crowder) private images.
In the current timeline, things became more tangled as Wrigley and Bree almost had a sexual encounter at her wedding, only for her to return to her husband, Evan. Fortunately, Stephen was there to stir the pot, exposing all the secrets of his “friends” through a revealing speech.
After Evan lashed out at Wrigley, the future of his relationship with Bree was left uncertain. Diana and Pippa (Sonia Mena) voiced what we were all thinking as they made a hasty exit. However, Lucy reverted to her toxic patterns by leaving the wedding with Stephen, though their romantic escapade was short-lived when he abandoned her at a gas station.
Creator Meaghan Oppenheimer confirmed on Monday, February 16, that the beloved Hulu series would be concluding, and previously shared her thoughts with Us Weekly regarding the final episodes.
“Regarding future seasons, it’s hard to predict at this moment,” Oppenheimer said exclusively to Us in January when asked about the possibility of more episodes. “I always envisioned this as an appropriate ending.”
While she didn’t dismiss the potential for a return, she added, “But one can never know what may arise in the future. I aimed to tie all loose ends this season. Essentially, I wanted to bring satisfaction to everyone.”

Lucy
Lucy faced her past when Bree discreetly gained her revenge. Ultimately, Bree was the one who leaked Lucy’s confession, resulting in her expulsion from school. Unaware of Bree’s role for years leading up to the wedding, Lucy reunited with Stephen at the event, but that was fleeting; the final shot showed her chuckling to herself as she recognized her poor choices once more.
Stephen
Stephen faced the fallout of his actions when his Yale offer was revoked. He got his revenge in the present by exposing everyone’s dirty secrets in a scene destined for TV history.
He left the wedding with Lucy, only to ditch her at a gas station en route.
Bree
In the past, Bree made the choice to leak Lucy’s confession while preserving the secrecy of Evan’s infidelity and severing ties with Wrigley for self-protection. Presently, Bree almost slept with Wrigley at her wedding and could potentially resume their relationship once she annulled her marriage to Evan.
Wrigley
In the past, Wrigley witnessed Bree rekindle her relationship with Evan after discovering he had slept with Pippa. The lack of communication clarified their growing distance leading to Bree’s wedding, where the two almost reconnected intimately without Evan’s awareness.
The present timeline concluded with Wrigley and Bree exchanging a knowing glance amidst the chaos of her wedding—a hint of potential romance brewing in the future.
Pippa
Pippa managed to confess her wrongdoings to Wrigley, demonstrating how their friendship endured all these years. She presumably continued her studies at Baird alongside Bree, devoid of Lucy.
In the present, Pippa heeded Diana’s advice and distanced herself from her toxic friendships … for the time being.
Evan
In the past, Evan faced the repercussions of cheating on Bree with Lucy, but instead of facing punishment, Bree urged him to maintain secrecy, allowing their relationship to persist until their wedding day. The reveal of Bree and Wrigley’s feelings for one another caused the wedding to implode, presumably resulting in the couple parting ways soon after the finale’s events.
Diana
In the past, Diana contemplated not going to Yale to evade Stephen’s toxicity. Unbeknownst to her, Wrigley played a part in having Stephen’s Yale offer rescinded.
The current timeline sees Diana advising Pippa to leave when events turned chaotic at Evan and Bree’s wedding.
Oliver
Bree’s ex-boyfriend, who is now a faculty member, only appeared in flashbacks, attempting to gaslight Bree into doubting her accusations about his inappropriate behavior with students.
Alex
There was not much progress regarding Alex’s future, but in the past, he supported Bree and encouraged her to prioritize her well-being amidst a toxic friend circle. He also distanced himself from Lucy, expressing how damaging it was for him—a survivor of sexual abuse—to hear her dishonesty regarding her assault.
