The Rainmaker Finale to End with Several Cliffhangers Before Season 2
The Rainmaker continues to deliver unexpected twists, and fans can look forward to a similarly surprising finale.
In an exclusive chat with Us Weekly, Lana Parrilla hinted that the USA Network series is just beginning. “Every character has a story arc,” she shared with Us. “It keeps us wondering, ‘What’s next for these characters and their relationships?’”
Parrilla, 48, emphasized that each character will encounter unique challenges.
“You really connect with these characters and their interwoven stories. There are so many more seasons and narratives we can explore,” she noted. “It’s a suspenseful legal thriller.”
Before the premiere of season 2, The Rainmaker will unveil “some stunning cliffhangers” at the conclusion of each episode. “Our season wrap-up is quite thrilling,” Parrilla revealed. “It’s very suspenseful and exhilarating. It certainly sets the stage for what’s to come.”
Inspired by John Grisham‘s 1995 novel of the same name, The Rainmaker follows the journey of young lawyer Rudy (Milo Callaghan), who is dismissed from his prestigious firm and joins forces with a small-time ambulance chaser named Bruiser. Rudy then faces off against his former boss in the courtroom. The book was adapted into a film by Francis Ford Coppola in 1997, starring Mickey Rourke and Matt Damon.

USA Network’s rendition of The Rainmaker incorporates several modifications from the book and movie — including a gender swap for Parrilla’s character.
“I believe Bruiser is an excellent character to gender swap for various reasons. As a woman, she embodies much more power. Bruiser in the novel is quite shady and dubious,” she told Us. “In the film adaptation, Mickey Rourke plays Bruiser, who appears at first but eventually goes on vacation to the Caribbean.”
After viewing the movie, Parrilla was eager to delve deeper into the character.
“Rudy has several maternal figures throughout the show, but Bruiser is the one who offers tough love. She acts as his coach and mentor, pushing him to think outside the box,” she explained. “Their relationship is unique; I doubt it would have been the same if Bruiser were male. It would have turned into a battle of egos.”
Parrilla elaborated: “I think she’s more impactful as a woman, not just with Rudy but in the courtroom as well. She’s sharp, daring, and resourceful, adding depth to Bruiser. Every interpretation is fantastic, but I’m thrilled that this character is a woman.”
The Rainmaker airs on USA Network every Friday at 10 p.m. ET.
