White and Gordon first crossed paths while filming the second season of The Bear.
“I think Molly does such an incredible job. She’s incredibly charming and funny, which makes it difficult for Carmy to maintain his usual emotional distance,” White remarked to Variety at that time. “She effortlessly broke through his walls, allowing Carmy to experience care, which he must have greatly appreciated, given how long it’s been since he’s allowed himself to feel that.”
Gordon’s character was introduced as a romantic lead for Carmy, a choice that stirred controversy among critics who felt Claire wasn’t adequately developed as an individual. Conversely, some argued that Carmy should have engaged with Sydney, portrayed by Gordon’s real-life close friend Ayo Edebiri.

“Our first shooting day together was the refrigerator scene. Upon meeting him, I felt that thrill of encountering an actor I admire, but at the same time, I felt an immediate connection, like I’d known him for ages,” Gordon told Glamour. “He’s so generous and approachable, in contrast to many other actors who can be difficult to engage.
