The True Cost of Carrie Bradshaw’s New Gramercy Apartment
In an instant, Carrie Bradshaw has settled into her lavish Gramercy Park apartment, a residence she envisioned sharing with Aidan Shaw.
The third season of And Just Like That, premiering on Max Thursday, May 29, features Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) officially making her move. As fans recall, she sold her iconic Upper East Side brownstone last season since Aidan (John Corbett) refused to set foot there due to their tumultuous past. (This memorable location was filmed at an actual site in the West Village.)
Carrie and Aidan had planned to begin their next chapter in the prestigious Gramercy neighborhood before he had to leave for Virginia to be with his sons. He promised to return in five years once his three kids made their way to college.
Meanwhile, Carrie kept the new apartment, which is housed in a 1840s Greek Revival co-op building at 3 Gramercy Park, Manhattan.
Eager viewers have shown immense interest in the impressive real estate featured in the Sex and the City spinoff, prompting Us to investigate how much Carrie spent on her new home.
In reality, Carrie’s townhouse was bought in 2022 for an astounding $5 million. Other units in the building have been sold for similar amounts, with a lower-level studio currently under contract for $900,000.
This marks not the first time Carrie has left behind an old home. Upon the premiere of AJLT, she resided with Mr. Big (Chris Noth) in a separate penthouse on Fifth Avenue, which she listed after her husband’s unexpected passing.
“One interesting aspect that Michael [Patrick King, the showrunner], introduced is that Carrie has maintained her old apartment as her creative space, where she goes to write and engage in her work,” production designer Miguel López-Castillo shared with Apartment Therapy in 2021. “It creates a sense that she can express herself there in ways she couldn’t in Big’s apartment, which was more of a reflection of him.”
After initially returning to her old studio, Carrie sought a new environment by the end of season 2, wanting to start a life with Aidan.
“I’ve had an epiphany! I’m ready to sell it and move on — for real this time,” she confided to her friend and real estate agent Seema Patel (Sarita Choudhury) in an August 2023 episode. “But it has to be somewhere truly special—something worth giving up my jewel box [for].”
It seems that the multi-story Gramercy address was indeed the special jewel box Carrie was looking for.
New episodes of And Just Like That are released on Thursdays on Max.
