This Is Us Stars Share Who Was Invited to Join Justin Hartley’s Tracker

Justin Hartley‘s popular series Tracker serves as an ideal opportunity to reconnect with his This Is Us co-stars, although not everyone has received an invite just yet.

In an exclusive chat with Us Weekly about the inaugural live episode of their “That Was Us” podcast, Sterling K. Brown, Mandy Moore, and Chris Sullivan teased the possibility of sharing the screen with Hartley soon.

“Justin is always encouraging me to visit Vancouver,” shared Brown, 49, who is busy with projects like Washington Black and the critically acclaimed Paradise. “I’ll go during the summer — not in the winter [months].”

Moore, 41, mentioned that she would “do anything” for Hartley — but is still awaiting a role offer. Sullivan, 45, humorously claimed he had “been asked” but “declined,” before clarifying he would be open to any offerings from Hartley.

“You can’t get rid of me on set. I’m not even part of the show,” he joked. “There I am, lurking at craft services.”

This Is Us, which aired from 2016 to 2022, centered on the lives of siblings Kevin (Hartley), Kate (Chrissy Metz), and Randall (Brown), along with their parents, Jack (Milo Ventimiglia) and Rebecca Pearson (Moore). Before This Is Us concluded, Hartley was already progressing — aided by producer Ken Olin — on his CBS series Tracker.

Hartley not only stars in Tracker but also serves as an executive producer, which has allowed him to reunite with several This Is Us co-stars, including Jon Huertas and Jennifer Morrison.

“[We talk about cameos] frequently. If I’m going to go for those big names, I’ve got to ensure there’s a compelling story,” executive producer Elwood Reid commented to Us earlier this month. “The show thrives because we focus on Colter so much, and he’s such a fascinating actor who can carry that weighty narrative.”

Reid confirmed that discussions are actively happening.

“We’ve definitely discussed involving Sterling K. Brown, Mandy Moore, and Milo Ventimiglia,” he stated. “However, finding the right timing — matching these individuals’ schedules — is an immense challenge.”

Reid concluded: “If I have a suitable storyline, I’ll go for it. But I’m always reluctant to do cameos just for the sake of it. We need a compelling emotional narrative or a fun storyline.”

Meanwhile, Brown, Moore, and Sullivan are gearing up for their upcoming That Was Us Live event on January 17. The special live show will take place at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, California, featuring the trio’s usual episode recap, accompanied by live music.

“This could pave the way for us to do more of these events — perhaps in other cities across the country,” Moore noted. “We’re eager to see how the audience responds.”

Moore also hinted at exciting surprises in store. “We’re not zeroing in on a specific episode during this recording. We’ll be discussing music more broadly throughout the show and its integral role in the series,” she teased. “Once we finish talking about music, we’ll have special guests to help enrich the conversation. We’ll also feature special performances exclusively for our audience.”

The trio is all in for That Was Us Live. “I’ve actually begun voice lessons in preparation,” Brown joked, after Moore praised his talent, “He tries to downplay it, but he has an amazing singing voice.”

Brown is thrilled about celebrating This Is Us with fans.

“Now that some years have passed, I view the show simply as a fan. I find myself deeply moved. It’s not about my performance, but rather their performances. I truly grasp the impact it had when it aired,” he reflected. “It’s a show that connects people beautifully.”

Brown added: “Watching this show, it’s abundantly clear that I’m witnessing genuine love among characters. The structure, writing, and storytelling are remarkable — but the relationships visible on screen stem from real-life love. It resonates profoundly with me.”

Having released over 400 episodes of their podcast, the co-stars are exploring creative ways to continue their collaboration.

“We’ve been discussing our next steps as we approach the end of our episodes — looking for ways to sustain this connection. We’re brainstorming possibilities, like rewatching episodes of other shows. So stay tuned,” Sullivan hinted, while Brown quipped, “We’re going to watch the podcast then create a podcast about the podcast. It’ll be very inside baseball.”

Tickets are available now for This Was Us Live on Saturday, January 17, at The Wiltern in Los Angeles, California.
